In a weird mood but I'm really not out to piss people off
18 years ago
I dunno' really where to begin. I get in these moods sometimes, and strangely a lot of it comes from me spending too much time on the net looking at anime fans. I won't deny shit and say that I'm not into anime.. I'm just not all that into a lot of the new shows people are getting hooked on. Also, in saying that, this doesn't mean that LATER ON I won't pick a show up and like it. I just don't like getting into shit when it's THE NEW THING!!! OMFG WATCH IT, HAVE YOU?? No, that's just not me. I like to take things slowly.
Whatever I'm rambling but I don't really care. I'd rather let it out than bottle it up. I guess when you flip on the tv and anime is readily available now it kinda makes me go a little "BLEGH" It just feels like the fandom has changed a lot over the years, and it's possible that I'm just too far behind to catch up, and maybe I'm bitter? I don't know for sure. It just feels like you CAN'T get away from Anime and Manga now. It's on TV, on people's clothes, there's a huge Manga section in Borders now, everybody is walking around trying to speak Japanese, blah blah blah. I really can't tell nowadays from people's screen names if they are really Japanese or not. *Shrugs* Not that I really CARE..
Seriously, I'm not trying to say this is a bad thing, but it can be a little overwhelming. Once again I am speaking for myself only. I just remember being one of the few kids in my area who watched the shows and was willing to pay 20+ dollars for a VHS with two episodes on it. Now, it really is EVERYWHERE!!! And "most of the time" when I try to actually have a conversation IRL or online about the subject I get these blank stares. "What the fuck is DevilMan? HAVE YOU WATCHED NARUTO?!!?" Let it be known that I DO like Naruto, I just can't watch a marathon of it dubbed on CN. Not to say that dubs are bad.. GOSH! I feel like I'm acting like an asshole or something..
I guess I need to just accept the fact that I can;t relate to Anime fans anymore, and it's rare that I run into people that wanna sit down and watch the oldies but goodies x-x
The bitch is signing off now..

Amen. Just, amen. I've only been to one day of an anime-only convention and I will never attempt it again. I've even given up my favorite anime/sci-fi convention because I'm tired of wasting loads of money to get in, only to see the same damn anime shows repeated everywhere.
I'm so glad to see this post, because it's good to find someone in a similar situation. I'll just go back to watching Ronin Warriors and silently weep.
Garsh! I'm such a judgemental weenie!~ :p
Like Inuyasha.
I watched that when it was on Adult Swim, at like 12am. No one knew about it.
Then suddenly, weeaboos, THOUSANDS OF THEM.
Seriously, you know it's over when you look up "fireman" on Deviant Art and get Ichigo from Bleach, and Inuyasha HALF NAKED
IN FIREMAN SUITS
IN FIRE
WHAT THE FUCK
ARUGH

I was once an avid anime fan myself, but I feel that the anime influence has oversaturated the creativity pool. That aesthetic has grown tired to these eyes. These anime shows, like Naruto, suck some hard core balls. There are some gems, like the Ghost in the Shell series, Cowboy Bebop, and Samurai Champloo, and anything Miyazaki. But overall, anime has become the new mainstream, and has replaced that Marvel Comics look as the reigning stylistic convention.
I would argue that you are *not* behind the times, but rather you are a dead canary in the deep mine of culture that has suffocated to death on the stale breath of anime.
If you think about it, the public-at-large is where you were at 10 years ago.
