so you expect little kids to be able to say Mijimaru or Ononokusu on thier first tries? Honestly, pokemon have been getting localized names since the begining, and I appreciate the fact that we're not expected to know japanese names beyond Pikachu or Pachirisu.

I wanted to punch a child every time I heard Smugleaf... I'll cede on Wotter being pretty clever, but Tepig is aobut on par with Pignite in my eyes.

Which is kinda ironic since, on 4chan at least, Wotter was considered the dumbest name while they're all about Smugleaf.

I'm glad I finally have something to call them. I was trying to avoid memorizing Tsutaja, Pokabu,a nd Mijimaru, and those unofficial names were kinda painful exept for Wotter maybe.

Snivy is the same as Smugleaf. No problem.
Tepig? Teh Pig? Doesn't seem to work as much as Piglit. Why that anyway? Same kind of pun.
Wotter was a huge pun. Why the odd name? He's still my favorite.
Isshu had no O in it. The new name does. Where did the new name come from?

I got a ton of journals on this subject on DeviantART and here on FurAnfinnity this morning, almost all of them being complaint journals about how terrible the names are, and I agree with all of them, the names are the worst ones since Piplup's name was revealed (until today, Piplup was the only Pokemon I reffered to by it's Japanese name, Pochama). But seriously, Ohsawott!? What the hell were these people smoking, it sounds like a good name for it in Germany, but such names are not tolerable in the United States (except for a few major German cities, such as Berlin and Hamburg, which have many American towns named after them), ironically, it's German name (Ottaro) sounds strangly English, do you think they mixed them up or something, or is there some bizzare meaning behind the name Ohsawott, or are they just torturing us to see how we react to the names?

On the upside, the region has a very interesting name, unnessicary, but interesting, apparently, when they found out that the region was based on Manhattan Island, they apparently went out of their way to make everything as American sounding as possible, makes me wonder what will happen when they reach Kojofuu and Kojondo, which are based on something that is Japanese (or Chinese, depending on how you look at it) not to mention Gym Leader Hachike, whom wears a Japanese based outfit and has Black Belts and Karate Girls all over the Gym, which, mind you, Karate was made IN JAPAN (why they made this an Ice Gym and not a Fighting Gym is questionable), oh, and the part in Hiun City where people speak multiple languages (almost all of them say something like "Hey Trainer, check out my moves!!!!!" or something like that), so having six or so people in the same room saying the exact same thing in the same language is quite disturbing.....

I'm thinking the Oshawott is supposed to reference ocean, since it's supposed to be a sea otter, last I heard. Personally, I was hoping its English name would reference its Shell Blade move.

I see what you mean because I was a bit confused with the "osha" part.

I've also heard that it's supposed to be a reference to an Ojibwa word/phrase for crossing a river... which confuses me because its evolutions are kind of samurai inspired... I mean, if they'd gone Native American for the buffalo, or the blatantly Native American eagle pokemon, it'd make sense...

Oshawott could possibly be a reference to the Canadian city Oshawa.

Which makes it awkward since it was known as a popular fur trade route back in the 1700s 8U
