I think the thing that has upset me the most over the years about this issue is when some one sates "Cub pron is illegal in the United States." Which means they never bothered to actually research it because if they had they would have run into a case entitled Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition, 535 U.S. 234 (2002) which went to the US Supreme Court. Which struck down the US laws against simulated child pornography, weather in literature or in artwork. It left in place the laws against real child pornography but struck down the ones that made it illegal to say draw cub porn.

I personally will have a debate about the merits / flaws of cub porn all day long, it to me is an intriguing debate, I just like them to have an informed opinion and contribute to the debate instead of declaring that something they don't like must be illegal.

I remember back when I heard about cub porn and I kind of related it to being a pedophile. But... when it came to banning it I was on the fence about it.

It wasn't until I read a journal by Dragoneer talking about his stance and why he doesn't ban it that I decided that it seemed like the correct decision. I don't care for cub porn myself, but so long as nobody is getting hurt then who am I to tell someone else what they can and can't dream about? There's lots of other weird fetishy stuff out there that, if practiced in reality, could hurt people and yet they don't seem to become a topic of controversy much like cub porn.

The real problem is the social stigmata associated with cub porn. (aka pedophilia) Seeing as nude pictures of children are banned on the internet, many people probably think the exact same thing about cub porn.

My stance as well. I dont' care about the subjects either way, I'm of good mind to just hit back and look at things that are more to my interest.

Course though if FA has to censor things because the government is making things illegal, then hey I can't complain. I don't want the whole site to get in trouble for not censoring things that the law says they should.

I admit that there is a point to considering banning it IF there are real legal consequences to be feared, which means: "Is it illegal in the country the SERVER resides at?"

Sure I personally think it's ridiculous to illegalize art that derives from 100% victimless DRAWING! It's not like real children were grinded up into PASTE to act as PAINT or something. Neither did any real children ever have to pose for such drawings or were forced to anything. It's pure fantasy and to be handled as such. Hence the phrase victimless. A so called "victimless crime" simply is NO crime, period.
Also, concluding just because someone likes nekkid furry cub art, that they would also touch real life human kids is simply preposterous and wrong on so many levels it's almost laughable.
So yeah, censorship in itself is not something I agree with.

BUT, and that's the big, butt biting but, if there are laws (no matter how objectively wrong or silly they are), knowingly breaking them in public simply isn't a very smart move.
As a site's admin one has to consider if they are legally on the safe side of things. I for myself would simply move the server to a country where it's not in question and be done with it but that alone sometimes isn't enough. I wouldn't want to risk to go to jail for something THAT ridiculous unless I would want to prove a point and make it a precedence case or something but well that's a little risky.
(although such a case WOULD be desirable just to prove a point, nevertheless such a thing can't be "demanded" from someone)

So yeah while I wouldn't want anything censored at all, I would understand why it would be done if it was to be done. Not out of misinterpreted moral issues, but out of the need to keep the site and it's owners safe from prosecution.

I dislike cub porn. I do not enjoy seeing it, I do not appreciate it being shoved in my face, and I will do all I can to completely disregard its existence and/or avoid it.

However, I wouldn't want someone to censor my favorite porn from me, so I absolutely cannot support the censorship of someone else's favorite porn.

That's literally the only reason why I tolerate cub porn (and most other kinds of porn I dislike), despite how squicky I find it.

I've had my say on that subject somewhere before. When it's not someone I know, I just don't want to chime in since there's not often a lot of upside to saying something because the wrong people use the wrong arguments against what I say.

There are illustrations that can foment violence and hate, and FA has its own guidelines as to what is inappropriate or disallowed here. This isn't so much censorship as it is focusing content to what FUR AFFINITY stands for, and not opening sluice gates to making it become a photobucket or screencapture gallery or whatever uninventive collection it might become, instead of its intended original furry art database.

Beyond furry, still there are depictions that are delineated as disallowed in the AUP which I won't reiterate here.

Cub art is not one of these things. Apparently, some people have trouble separating in their mind the depiction of a youthful furry character interacting with an adult one in a sexual way with any form of statuatory rape or pedophilia. The fact that a pedophile may find images like this tittilating is irrelevant.

By making this kind of objection, you imply the artist themselves are pedophiles for creating the image, and/or the requesting person for the work. Stop couching your slander and come right out and say it, then! Either point at these people and call them out for what you think they are, or stop implying this about the art. I'm getting really sick of this passive-agressive criticism of this genre, regardless for whether I personally dislike it or not.
