I had something like that happen to me. I bought a new video card and when I went to put it in I found out that the slots didn't line up.

Ugh I had this shit with my fucking RAM... It said the Ram was compatible in both the mobo guide AND the RAM booklet and then poof... Mobo sends too much wattage twice over and fries like 2 sticks of RAM on two occasions...

Got some OCZ which wasn't even mentioned at a Mhz unmentioned and it works beastly... Lol

sometimes you need a bios update if they say "its compatible".
example, most 775 mobos can handle core2duo of the "penryn" family.. but noone by default, you have to update your bios.

Reminds me of when I had a bad CPU. I wasn't going to deal with replacing a $400 part myself, so I let "professionals" do it. They tried sticking an incompatible CPU into the motherboard four times before someone said, "Yo, that one won't work, stop sending them back to the manufacturer DOA" and got me a bootable machine (windows was hosed by that point, but I knew how to solve THAT issue).

Yes, SUPER duper easy. Sometimes it just needs a BIOS update to be fully compatible. :E

Most mobo's need to be compatible with everything connected to it, some things are almost universally compatible whilst things like RAM, some graphics cards [depending on connectors] and the actual case of the computer needs to align with the drill slots to place it in properly and avoid it touching the case which would equal fail :D

That is why you get the correct size board for the case you have... and if you have one of the smaller cases you don't get a big card.

you act like its the end of the world, pretty sure a motherboard issue isn't reaally *that* bad. just take a deep breath and chill out.

It can be a pretty big issue, given that the motherboard is the brain and spinal column of the computer. But it still is just a computer. I've never bothered building my own, just because I know I will fuck it up worse than *almost* anything I can buy. The most I'll do is upgrade my RAM.

Crazy... hope there's not a fundamental issue like all this in-and-out of various motherboards hasn't electrostatically wrecked the CPU, meaning it's never going to work in ANYTHING. They are super sensitive to the slightest, undetectable by human touch discharges of static electricity (the same kind of shock you get in winter when you reach for a doorknob). The body often has a differential voltage from motherboards and sensitive computer equipment, and without appropriate static discharge prevention gear and procedure, discharges can happen, ruining CPUs, motherboards, RAM, videocards, basically anything you handle from the inside of a computer. This is why they come in those silvery bags with warnings on them.

I'm getting keenly suspicious that unless they have a working computer to plug your CPU into and verify it's still OK, you may be waiting 2 more weeks for a similar result... It's just so unlikely 2 motherboards would be incompatible with this CPU if the specs were DEFINITELY correct for it. If they were definitely incorrect, well then also, no matter how many you order, no workee every time...

This is the beauty and ugliness of by-the-component PC building, like the Vulcan IDIC. Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. What they didn't tell you is it's like a swiss cheese what actually works together well (or even boots) of all the possibilities... That is not the Alph-2 set you would expect... no, actually it's a definite and finite set of unknown parameters whose boundaries seem to shrink and grow dynamically depending on the Windows Update and what drivers have been released for what products. I picture it as the space amoeba from the classic series. Gooey and sticky, once you plunge into it, you're usually stuck inside indefinitely. It has some pretty colors, but it eats at you and saps your energy, and it seems nothing really helps short of a few pounds of pure antimatter.
