Japan's decency laws have always been like that, I pretty much presume most artists are tired of it and I think I've seen some that don't even bother blurring or black-barring the important bits just to be bold.

Blame our WWII sanctions on Japan, that censorship is actually part of the US demands as part of our punishment of them it's not anything they ever felt like making into law.

on hentai yes, they blurr most ovas and movies but not all.On anime the just don't show them only on underage boys. and when it comes to females they do show boobs and private parts.but they don;t draw the lips as a censoring stuff

I don't understand Japan's censorship laws.

Some artists don't censor their porn, and some barely censor it at all. I've seen a few people claim that the censorship laws either got repealed or were eased up, but some others say that the laws still exist. The people who claim the former say that the censorship only continues out of keeping with tradition, of which I've heard the Japanese are quite fond.

I last saw those comments years ago, so if something did change it happened a while ago.

It comes and goes based on how strongly it's enforced.

The hentai artists and porn producers try to push the boundaries: a little less mosaic here, a smaller black bar there. They do this until the censorship is basically a formality (like hentai pics where the "censor bar" is a tiny sliver that doesn't even cover the entire opening of the vulva, and is transparent). Then at some point the authorities crack down, some people get busted, and everybody else goes back to covering their asses by covering everything. Then after a while, the artists and producers start to test the waters and see if the authorities aren't looking: a little less mosaic here, a smaller black bar there...

And so it goes.

i think i remember reading somewhere that even the Japanese are tired of the censorship. i think because of this in some doujin the censorship is a tiny semi transparent box that doesn't so much at all.

I've always assumed that Japanese people actually have genitals with either small black stripes on them, or alternately consisting of large pixels.

Honestly, you get used to it after a while. Plus, it helps to remind you that the finest details of the most intimate bits aren't really the point of a good porn picture. How many times do you need to see a picture of a peen or cooch before you just stop caring what it looks like in epic detail?

If you look at a picture and think "this would totally be fappable if it weren't for this half square inch of pixelation" you're really, seriously doing it wrong.

the thing i find funny about their censorship is how the censoring ranges from "i can tell thats a dick" all the way to "what in the hell is that blotchy... pixelated.. whatever it is?" and everywhere in between

Its so lax now that you can put a 2mm line over the offending part now and thats all that is required.

That's why you got to get creative with the angles so you can show as much without having to worry about censoring.

I've hated this law since I first saw hentai. I'm wondering when they'll try to change it. The only good thing about censoring I can think of is artists can draw genitals as shit as they want and they won't have to worry about it on the finished product.

Censoring in their own country, Yes. But when it comes to releasing it in the US, Nupe :3 They know how to treat us americans to give us a good clear pink shot even though they're own neck of the woods have to make due with the mosaic.

None of the Japanese artists I know like it one bit, but that's also why they've started posting to sites hosted outside of Japan.
Haven't figured out what's going on with Pixiv. There seems to be a lot of uncensored art on there so my guess is that it's not hosted on Japanese servers, but I can't confirm this.

You think it must be annoying to draw pictures and have them be censored? What about those poor artists who work on the ANIME and have it be censored?

I heard somewhere that the reason so much Japanese porn still to this day contains little to no pubic hair is because at one point in time, it was illegal to show pubic hair, so the hentai artists just got around that by drawing everyone's genitals bald, and/or shaving all their photographic models.

I remember doing a report on Animation censorship in high school, and according to what i read, it was considered illegal it show genitalia or pubic hair in japan at one point. No nipples, no cooter, and the guys were essentially ken dolls.

Apparently those laws have gotten lax (if La Blue Girl and many other titles are any indication), but to an extent they still exist. The bars and blurs are annoying, but annoyingly small by comparison.

I even recall one animation professor claim that the bars and blurs were added so that the viewer could "imagine their own private parts in place of the blurs". I think she was smoking a bit too much grass.

Living in Japan -is- awesome. I know.

Actually, some parts of Japan don't censor porn at all.
