This is so awesome. XDDD They'll probably eventually force us to update to their crappy Windows Live Essentials 2011 crap, but until then we can have hotlinks again!
If you get "access denied" trying to hack the exe file... drag the whole Messenger folder to your desktop, do the editing there, and put it back. That worked for me. =)

Shortly after this, they disabled links from turning clickable in chat windows for ONLY the 2009 version. They said that it was because this version was unstable and susceptible to attack from a worm. It's a worm that's been around for YEARS though... it's hard to believe they're doing anything about it now.
