Religious intolerance...

I tweeted about this but I've kind of got a mind to blog about it as well.
This week the Ft. Worth T announced that atheist ads would begin running on it's buses starting next week I believe. The slogan that will run on the side of the bus is basically "Millions of Americans are Good without God". My knee jerk reaction to this was a big good for them for giving ad space to an organization that does not believe in God. Irregardless of what I believe it is nice to know that groups are allowed equal 'face time' on the side of the buses as long as they pay for the ad space.
This story has more or less run on each and every network and on almost every news show all week long. This morning was no exception and you can imagine that the Christians are bent out of shape about it. Now I get that they are upset that someone is running an ad that basically says we believe God doesn't exist and we're happy about that. What I don't get is how these so called Christians get off on saying that they are offended and the ads should be taken down. What makes them better than the atheists? Surely the atheists, or any other non Christian, would be potentially offended at religious ads.
So the Baptists (big surprise) are planning a protest because they are offended. So fucking what. You're not better than any of the rest of us so why do you get to throw your toys out of the baby pram and cry about it? Don't the atheists have just as much right as you do to tell people what they believe?

In closing I just want to say that this is not a pro-atheist entry or anti-Christian entry. It's more so about equality and the fact that I get infuriated when Christians have the audacity to think they are the only ones who are right and everyone else should just forget about believing anything that contradicts their belief system.

Christians have come to believe that theirs is America's religion, period.
*smiles* It's nice to hear from you again. Been AGES since we've talked. :D
Where are the Christians waving around swords to decapitate their fellow Christians or strapping bombs to themselves, their animals, or even their children to blow up other Christians? Sorry, I'm not seeing it.
Today, believing they have become "civilized," Christians practice persecution through nefarious applications of civil law in an attempt to enforce their sectarian attitudes on everyone who disagrees with them. Tactics range from literary and artistic censorship all the way to criminal prosecution for non-Christian religious activities.
Of course atheists have the same right to free speech as Christians do. If Christians can't tolerate opposing opinions, then tough luck to them. They're wrong to get upset. The best cure for speech you don't like is not to silence it but to rebut it with better speech.
Your phony attempt as objectivity is evident in the fact that you ignore the hateful and immature behavior committed by atheists on these same issues.
Here is the crucial difference between atheist display ads and Christian display ads. Christian ads are almost always positive and affirmative of their own position. They do not attack anyone, they simply promote their own beliefs. Many atheist ads are, in contrast, deliberately negative attempting to attack Christianity instead of making a positive affirmation of atheism. They are often deliberately offensive and hostile. The specific ad you mentioned is not one of these ads but there were other ads, such as those that attacked Christmas.
If you're so infuriated by intolerance, then why does intolerance towards Christianity not offend you? I get infuriated by people who get infuriated about intolerance and are yet intolerant themselves. You have no tolerance for Christians or zoos so for you to rant about this is sheer hypocrisy.
Finrod, yet again you fling this anti-zoo thing at me. I've asked you on several occasions to point me at something that makes you say this about me. If you're insistent on hurling this accusation at me then at least have the decency to back it up with something concrete so I can see why you feel this way. Otherwise you're just name calling and fueling bad feelings.
