Jon and I will be moving this month...

I know that many people who watch me here on FA also read Jon's LiveJournal where he posted first, but I wanted to post a bit too about what all is going on.
I am currently laid off... I am looking for full time work and actually got a call Friday to set up a job interview for this week. I didn't get to call back till the office was closed so I expect to talk to the HR person there Monday. I am currently working part-time seasonal in a store in the mall where my boyfriend Jon currently works.
With me being unemployed, I was stressed enough about our situation. So, of course, Jon started having trouble at work. As usual, hindsight is perfect and he now wishes that he didn't take the promotion he was offered over the summer. Since he was promoted, the area got a new district manager who does not treat the employees the same as those in other areas. He has been firing people and then insisted that Jon's manager give him a written 'coaching' paperwork thing about 1 1/2 months ago. She said he was not being 'written up' but that she had to give him the paper. Well, he went to work Thursday to find out that all but 2 employees in his store were being written up for something that the other districts don't even worry about during the timeframe when major Christmas shopping is going on. So, he finds out then that the first 'coaching' thing was really a write-up and this is now his second. The note on it specifically stated that he had to improve on this particular item in 2 weeks or be fired for it.
This happening was wrong for multiple reasons. 1) The districts should all be treated the same, the stores in Pittsburgh don't have to stress much over these statistics right now so why should the ones in Greensburg? 2) In reference to the particulars he was written up for, previously he was the top person in his district when in Pittsburgh, but he is having trouble with it in Greensburg, he didn't change how he works so it is likely a result of the store location and not him personally. 3) The person right below him in rank has been trying to get in in trouble for anything he could think of cause he thought he should have been promoted when Jon was moved there even though Jon had been with the company about 2 1/2 years at the time and the other guy less than 1 year.
So, he figured (and his store manager confirmed he was likely right) that the district manager planned to keep him through Christmas and fire him afterward. With how the paperwork was written, he could really wait as long as he want and fire Jon whenever he was ready, so Jon decided that he didn't want to have this hanging over his head that he could be fired in 2 weeks or any time after. How well can you honestly perform well with that constant threat hanging over your head? So, he gave his 2-week notice and his last day is December 17. He tried to get moved to his old district first but there's no openings so this is the only option to not get fired. He really wanted to leave on his own terms rather than be fired whenever the district manager thinks is time because we need to have a plan for what is happeneing.
We confirmed approval from my parents and checked with the leasing office at our apartment complex. We are just at the beginning of a new term of our lease so we can move at the end of December with no lease termination fee thanks to the very nice manager giving us a 1-month extension on our leas that would have been renewed or ended on December 1.
So, by the end of the month, we expect to have rented a storage unit for temporary storage of our furniture and some items and we will temporarily move into a bedroom at my parents house. We expect to only stay there a few months. Until he has a new job and I have a new job. I have already been discussing his situation with my managers in my part time retail job and my Store Manager is going to ask the district manager if there are any openings in the area for managers in our chain of stores. So, he may have some job leads already which would be excellent.
We would also like a lease that does not end at such a bad time also, every time we would have had the opportunity to move at the renewal point of our lease, it was Thanksgiving weekend and he couldn't get off of work even if he asked cause he works in retail.
We really feel that this is the smartest and financially safest move for us at the moment and we don't really want to stay with my parents and ask for help at all but we know we will make it a very short term situation. We have already talked some with a friend who may want to move here to Pennsylvania this spring so we may even have a roommate to help share expenses when we are ready in a few months to get the new apartment.
I am sorry this post was soooo long but I tried to explain as briefly as possible. I could have added lots more details but this would turn into a book then. (also note that I didn't really spell-check and I am tired so there are probably some little typing errors... sorry.)

We still do want to see our friends and such. Plus, Jon will have more time off for a little while till he gets a new job so maybe we actually can visit people.
How are things going in Ohio for you?
