I have the same topic come up with my wolfie if he ever went to a con with me. He is a furry but has never been to a con before and wondered what he would do with himself while I am out with friends or at a panel that does not interest him.

Hummm, well nothing says Jason could not keep you company in Artist Ally especially if you need to eat or take a mental break if you are setting up shop there. As for suiting , true there is only so long a person can follow a suiter around if not spotting I assume. Why not set a time every day at the con and leave for awhile to eat, drive, and sight see? Ask if there is anything he wants to check out in the area within a reasonable walking or driving distance. Start by paging through a few travel guides or checking online on what is going on in the local area during the con.

By the way which con is he thinking of attending?

The cons I kind of want to drag him to are AC and MFF. The thing with both of those is that I want to be sure I have a super reliable ride to and from. What better than husband? He's really such a trooper though :3c

I can tell him what sort of stuff there is around FCN to do, though you've not mentioned him in the plans. We really don't have much though. I wouldn't want to send him out to Ann Arbor by himself, it is too easy to get lost there.

Well I don't think he'd be interested in going to Detroit. Really I talked to him about it last night and he just doesn't want to waste money on something he doesn't see worth his time as far as interest is concerned.

I would say take a look at the schedule, and try to figure out a panel/event schedule for him to follow/attempt. Might prove to be fun for him.

Also, have him hang out with you in AA might be difficult, what with the rules in most AAs these days.

Yeah, damn to those AA rules -_- I don't think he'd be interested in ANY panels ever offered at a convention unless there's one about civil engineers.

Well, there are events that might catch his interest. Who's Lion usually gets people(unless its the version that happened at AC this year), and Kage's story hours are always fun.

That or you could let him wander from time to time, once you've released him from bound captivity in your hotel room. Your call.

From all accouns I heard, it wasn't run by the same people, and people were up and leaving it well before it was over. These be the legends that be told.(drat, I thought there was a pirate icon to finish this up with)

I've had the same issue, both when I was new to cons and when my mate wasn't in the alley XD;

There's a lot of games he could do. There's usually a board/card game room and a video game room, if he's into that. There's tons of workshops and panels he could attend, especially if he wants to learn more about furry. If he wants to learn about about drawing, he could do those as well. Other than that, I've found one of the most fun things is just finding someone you find interesting and hanging out with them a lot :D Good way to make new friends and all.

He's not into playing games with strangers I don't think. Not much of a people person ^^' Soooo yeaaaaah. I know it makes my hunt for solutions even harder I know. I feel that the more I expose him to the more well rounded he'll become. Uncomfortable or odd scenarios do that. I know it has for me anyway :3

Here is my advice..

My mate and I have slightly different interests. While I would have much more fun suiting and drawing in the Artist Alley, he would have a lot more fun simply walking around, getting to know other people and joining interesting panels.

Even if he isn't a furry, the possibility is there, not to mention that most furries are typically the friendliest sort of people, and the easiest to make friends among.
If not, there are always things to do within a city.. sites to see and such. I am sure if you called the hotel they could tell you a whole bunch of tourist attractions!

Another thing about a lot furries is that they're social outcasts or creepers ^^' I found that a lot of the artists are the "normies" of the group or at least people I wouldn't mind introducing him to :3
