PLEASE STOP! I think they're a horrible idea to make a quick buck and it makes you look like a sell-out. One of you, I won't name any names, sold an adoptable that looked exactly like my character (5p1ic3) and I was horrified to see it sell. Well, I'm tired of keeping quiet. I do NOT approve! Thanks for taking all the originality of the fandom and selling it for your quick gain.

There's really nothing wrong with making and selling adoptables. It sounds like what you're really having an issue with is character theft, which is something you should bring up directly to the artist in question. But then with the growing fandom you're sure to find more than one person with a fursona that looks like yours. I know I've got a few clones that where around before and after I started posting art of my character.

I don't see the point in adoptable period. If you want a character, design the character. Why pay for something someone else dishes out? It's like paying for escorts in second life. If you want to make an adoptable go ahead but I don't feel for the people who actually by them.
