Stupidity filter.

Over the years of browsing this site, and other websites, I believe my brain has developed a stupidity tolerance and/or filter. I'll see a comment made by someone who is either totally ignorant or stupid, and immediately purge it from memory. Poof. Gone.

Though it makes me wonder. If we continue to tolerate stupidity and ignore it.. won't it eventually come around to bite us in the ass? All those people who are making stupid comments will not be corrected or told "You're fucking stupid". And they will continue to do it unknowingly.

Go to school, learn what sarcasm, common sense and context is, then you can have your degree in internet commenting C: Like me!

i prefer to teach them the error of their comment right then and there. if they fail to understand i try to clarify (if possible) and if they still continue to argue i leave their flaming asses alone. i wonder if the flamers of the internet are truly all stupid or if some are just acting stupid so to anger others.

There are trolls that act stupid to get a reaction from people. But generally you can spot these pretty easily if you have some common sense.

I remember the times (just some years ago) where 1-liners, poorly written posts etc. got deleted in forums. Now it's normal that a thread looks like IRC-chat..

An easy way to avoid having stupid people comment at all is to try not to say what you do and do not want posted in comments. Knowing what will bug a person is a sure way to attract said 'trolls'. Then again, its not full-proof. There are always some itching for an arguement.

The problem is when people are being stupid, a good part of the reason tends to be that they don't care enough to try to act intelligent. I just don't bother with them at all anymore because I've tried and I've never gotten anywhere before :v

Yeah i agree that if you ignore such rampant stupidity it just gets worse and worse, but how do you give someone a proper brow beating about their amazingly ignorant comments w/o looking like an asshole? :O

Unfortunately, this sort of ostracization rarely works - if the collective takes it upon themselves to mock and point out stupidity, it's usually a cause of drama, not education. I think most of us ignore stupidity because we realize that in this internet, and certainly in this fandom, there are more stubborn, asocial, and maladjusted people -- not to mention trolls -- than there are people who could act with some decorum and just need a swat on the nose or twelve.

But, y'know, yeah. Stupidity sucks~

It seems to be taboo in furry culture to be critical of those who have a massive reality filter. Otherkin for example, like to think they're actually animals - or whatever it is.

It has the knock-on effect of allowing people to pretend they're something they're not, and behave as such. Thus you have this happy childlike culture where anything anyone says is fine so long as its not critical in anyway, or you're deemed to be hostile and ostracized.

It would be wonderful if there was an IQ test to be taken before going on the internet. Lessons on common courtesy, sarcasm, trolling behavios and how to not feed them, How to deal with assholes, etc.

Course, I wish they'd just make peopel take an IQ test before reproducing. Idiocracy is proof of why that would be a fabulous idea.

I think it depends on what karma thinks. Was it something you should've been listening to? If it's ridiculously unrelated, chances are it won't matter, but if you manage to tune out "Hey I need you to take me to *place* so I can *thing*" and then 2 days later "*stuff* because *you*", then you're in trouble.

I used to get into a lot of drama when I would point that out to anyone acting like a dick.

Problem is... Well they are a stupid prick, so they always attempt to take the moral high ground despite saying a bunch of shit x3
