Photoshop you don't need. Paint Tool SAI and gIMP are all you require.

Hm, the tablet issue...is just that. If you have a scanner all you need is pencils, but...

Yes, I do.

Some, like  whoreomatic are doing it for fun, others, like  greatnixfox open them every once in a while. Then there's those who are like  jeffk38uk who do flat requests for free, shading costs. Great deal, if you ask me. And, of course,  ankokutheblackheart, a great artist, also free - but I can't tell you his current request status.

Then there's also , but he'll close down next year, and one whose last round of requests I've managed to get a spot in...I was lucky, but it's a shame the artist has to live off commissions now...but better than starving, I guess.
