Chicago mayoral election...

...is on Feb 22. While Rahm gets all the attention, I am putting my endorsement behind Carol Moseley-Braun. If you live in the city, be sure to vote, and don't let Rahm run this place like he was running behind the scenes at the White House! (I'm not sure I trust that guy.)
Oh, and a happy belated new year to everyone. May we all have many months of having to go and x-out dates because we fucked up and wrote 2010 by accident :p

You know what else? It just occurred to me that running a city the size of Chicago has to be a bit like running a small country. A very corrupt and fickle small country.
She is against privatization of the city's parking meters, and will likely work to revoke the company's lease to operate them if elected. This of course cuts out the middleman, and reverses the impractical and spiraling costs associated with the unpopular move of privatizing them in the first place.
She's now got the support of pretty much all the leaders in the local black community now that many of her other opponents who had support and/or endorsement from those leaders have dropped out and endorsed her, which gives her a reasonable coalition among that community.
And, she's got name recognition.
Pretty much everything else I would say, I was just looking for someone who could run against Rahm, because while I'm glad he's out of the White House, I don't really want him returning to politics here after all that other crap.
A simple compare of the candidate's websites tell me that Rahm's still got some of Obama's slick graphic designers on the payroll. There's a lot of heft and money going towards him, but that could actually work against him in an environment where it feels like outside forces are trying to influence the area's politics. They're wheeling in Bill Clinton to stump for Rahm, for example.
Here's the candidate's sites if you wanna check it out just for your own amusement:
