Need feedback on this situation, asap

I'm having a bit of trouble deciding what to do by myself... Well okay, not really, but I'd like to consider the other option, if it's something I should do.
Yesterday, when starting my work shift, I had a violent/pissed customer guy who was mad at my coworker, because said coworker carded the guy. When the guy arrived at the cash, asked where my coworker went, so that he could go beat him up, but he had already left. He then asked me if he looked 20 and if I'd card him. I said 'yes' to both questions, pointing at the sign on the ceiling, since we're supposed to card people who look under 25, at which point the guy started threatening ME.
It's one thing to call me names and shit at work, but it's another thing entirely to be threatening me with 'Ripping out my hair and beating the shit out of me.' I don't respond very well to that kind of shit and I kinda figured the guy was all talk, like every other loud and inebriated customer, so I called him out on it, saying he didn't have the balls.
He knocked over my Dr. Pepper which was in his reach, which led to me starting to yell at him WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? To which he knocked over a bunch of other shit on the counter. I knocked his hand away and he pushed me, to which I crossed to the other side of the counter to show him the door. But he pushed me and we fought.
I'm not a violent man, this was the first serious fight I've ever had in my life and it lasted 30 seconds, because I decided that it was retarded we were fighting at all, since this didn't have anything to do with me, so I let myself go and let him know I was finished, to which he left the store with his friend who had been shouting STOP IT, LET'S JUST GO
Now here's my situation, stacking the pros and cons of what could happen if I press charges:
On one hand, I knew the guy wasn't sober/in a good frame of mind, but I DID provoke him
But I didn't start any of this, I intended to finish it though
My boss and I watched the cameras, and indeed, I was the one to take the first blow
I'm pretty sure seriously threatening a person with physical harm is against the law :I
But I sure as hell didn't respond in a sensible way, or as my company's security rules wanted me to
So yeah, I don't know whether or not to press charges. The police told me what was in store for me if I did, which was most likely, the other party would press charges too, giving a bullshit story or something, leading to me being arrested too, and given a court date in about a year's time.
I'm having trouble deciding whether or not pressing charges in the end will be worth it; I mean, yeah, I took a black eye, but it's not like my life was ever in danger, I didn't get stabbed or anything. I just don't know if it's worth the hassle to take the chance at getting arrested myself and having to go to court for a fight that wasn't THAT serious.
What do you all think, those who actually read all of this a care/pretend to care? Should I press charges?

FA+

You definitely have a case, but if you violated your own company's security rules then that could be used against you, so I would say don't go for it.
company rules are basically step back and tell the guy he's on camera and I can call the police fairly easily
like I said, I don't handle taking people's shit all that well, so doing that was the LAST thing on my mind, I wanted him OUT and it was obvious he wouldn't go; I thought maybe by crossing to the other side he'd indeed leave, but I was losing control at that point, so I wasn't the best purveyor if decisions
I'm hoping that if I DO press charges, court would look more at the actual situation rather than what company policy was
Personally, I think that, regardless of what I brought up, you had a right to defend yourself and that your case is the stronger one, and has sufficient evidence to support it.
"sorry sir, but here, in COURT, we follow the LAW, and not an "X" gas station policies, whatever they be, even if they are good or bad."
They go by law.
That argument would only put in display what a noob lawyer that is.
BUT, that's not even what's important here. .....what's important is that cole doesn't get in trouble or anything that has a PROBABILITY of getting him in trouble.
My advice remains: let this whole thing die.
I agree though, which is why I said he shouldn't press charges :P
<3
Basically...
> Doesn't matter how much one yells or what one says, the first one punching, is the one getting in trouble.
TRUE.
> You were just doing your job, the dude wasn't sober, and he had no reason to start shit with you! no matter how sarcastic or witty you were or how much you yelled.
TRUE.
>Take pictures ASAP of your injuries, because it can be evidence.
> People DO make bullshit stories up in court....
> People DO get in trouble do to bullshit stories......
> All court-related goverment-related proccesses, are a hazzle and at the end of a long scary thing, it is never worth it.
Yeah, it did suck, but MY advice?
It passed. It's over. Finito. The end.
It didn't got to get worse... and shit happens. You can just let it die, and it's what I would do too.
It is to risky to go there and end up in jail too because you wanted justice and people make bullshit stories against you.
Heck! even if he does go to jail, you never know who he knows, or how we will get his payback (since he seems to be the douche type of person that has douche friends and could work out a revenge, from scratching the enemy's car, to wait for him outside and beat him up etc etc)
Overall... ...don't do shit.
It was shit, it passed, it's over, it won't happen again (it is VERY unlikely) and it's completely over.
If it was another scenario, a more serious one, then yeah.. ..but meh, I've been sued and shit (over a bullshit story!) and trust me.. ..it is not pretty business.
We are just glad you are okay.
At the end, it is your choice, I was just giving you my opinion.
Some others are more... vengeful and will go on with the whole "YOU CAN'T LET THIS CONTINUE, PEOPLE LIKE THIS EXIST BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T DO ANYTHING AGAINST THEM" blablablablabla ... .....easy to give that advice when it's not your ass on jeopardy suing and possibly getting countersued.
Good luck, with your decition cole~
Next time you see him, avoid him.
if he starts shit, DO NOT TALK, DO NOT OPEN YOUR GODDAMN MOUTH and just call the cops.
The whole "as soon as I see him walking down the street I'll call the cops!!" thing, is as good (and worse!) than pressing charges for what just happened.
Dude, leave it like this, seriously. it's over, it passed, moment gone, and not coming back, the end, move on.
... for your own sake
it's just calling the police under the counter and leaving the phone there
sorry, typo up there
each country has their different laws *nodsnods*
i wouldnt bother with it though, seems like a lot of trouble for a simple brawl(drunk guy CONFIRMED FOR BRAWL!)
and lol@CONFIRMED FOR BRAWLL
yet if they have camera of him starting crap with the first guy then towards you hes kinda busted. now hsi friend that was trying to get him to leave dotn think he was wanting it to get that heated and was probly going "the heck how the frak it get to this" in his mind XD.
yet i woudl warn your friend or other coworker to be carefull ofthe guy as chances are can see stalk then beat down type thing happening.
yet best way to combat now in such cases liek this is evasive like defensive and evasive. Yet when he starts endangering others thats when must go on offensive to stop and apprehend and do a citizens arrest.
So my coworker is someone who could testify that the guy was indeed drunk/violent, threatening etc
the guy was also driving erratically and a lady who I was talking to for a little bit about it phoned the cops about this guy just before I did; while dudeface was still in the store as she didn't feel safe on the road with a guy driving like that
so I feel even though I probably won't press charges at the end, he still has another case against him
so right now its as cheesy as it sounds AVATAR last airbender king boomie. the three jins. positive negative and neutral jin "do nothign wait and listen"
probly state some ones threatening you then face the phone to the guy yelling LOL
hoping other guy was too drunk to remember wtf happened lolol
