World of Warcraft replica weapon contest: HARD.

The second I saw the contest I stamped my foot down in the ground, something I rarely do and said "I'm entering that contest." For people who know me, I'm a lazy panda like person. I don't like putting physical effort into ANYTHING. For me to have said "Oh hey I want to make a sword or two" was pure madness. ...But no, it gets worse.
I wanted this sword to last, I wanted them to hang from my wall so that I could be proud of them. My thinking was, hell if I don't win the contest at least I have a kickass weapon I made with my bear hands. So what do I do? I look into wood carving. HA. yeah, wood is long lasting! It'd even allow me to hit my little brother occasionally when he pulls out his own kendo stick!
....Was I high? Who slipped me the happy pill?
I originaly reached for Balsa wood, but found that none of the stores in local NJ carried anything larger than 2 feet length and a quarter inch thick. For airplanes. So I buckled down, shoved my hand into my wallet and bought BIRCH. I really wish I knew what I was in for.
The last 2 weeks have been spent fighting, and carving, and sanding, and crying over these two planks. The design was the easy part, I penciled it in, took my time and made a grid over the sheets of wood. The plan was for me to glue 3 1/4 inch 2x4s together, cut it out, paint it, have a nice day. I was BLIND... I've spent about 300$ in supplies for this thing, The wood, the exacto knife that was supposed to be able to cut BALSA wood, the jigsaw that only runs for 10min before crapping out, the primer, the paint, the ACTUAL primer and paint that I needed because the first ones were incompatible for wood (no refund either, fucking Lowes), the list goes on. thankfully I had a cousin who could lend me the rest of the power tools I could use. But wait, it gets worse. multiply this shitstorm by 2, because I wanted TWO swords! Yay!
I'm done one sword, and the other one is ready to be sanded down. What swords am I making? The FUCKING WARGLAIVE OF AZZINOTH.
Was it worth it? Yes. Will I ever do it again? No. This is the equivalent of a gamer playing I want to be that guy on the hardest difficulty. You never do it twice.
