Mouse problem (USB to PS/2 KVM)
I decided to replace my 10 year-old mouse (a USB Logitech M-BD58) with a brand-new Logitech M100. I just unplugged the old one and plug in this new one. Doesn't work. The red light turns on, but nothing sends through.
If I plug it directly into a USB port in my tower, it works. If I plug it through a USB-to-PS2 adaptor connected to my KVM, it doesn't work. But my old mouse, same brand, does work that way.
What do I do? And please don't suggest using two mice for each tower. I mean, how to I get it to work through my KVM? Google is not my friend today. I also didn't find any help on Logitech's site. :-P
*** UPDATE: I've isolated the problem. I use a USB-to-PS2 adaptor. Not all mice work with that thing. I tested both mice directly into my tower using the adaptor and sure enough, while the old mouse worked, the new mouse didn't work. So it's not the KVM's fault.
I have to return the mouse for a refund, and keep trying different models and brands until I find one that works with the adaptor. I'd buy a new-old stock M-BD58 Logitech mouse off eBay if I'd find one but they never show up.

Hm, they give me two options: SetPoint 32-bit or SetPoint 64-bit. I have no clue what that means! O.o

most systems are 32 bit version

Two suggestions, number one, try to reconnect the KVM, if that doesn't work, try using the mouse without the KVM or simply replace the KVM. It could just be a connection problem between the mouse and the unit. It might just be that the KVM has not picked up the new mouse, and it still recognises the M-BD58. Same scenario happened with my KVM. All I did was replace the KVM unit and it picked up the mouse.

I tried disconnecting the mouse from the KVM and the KVM's PS2 connector from the tower. I plugged the new mouse in the KVM and reconnected the KVM into my tower, but it didn't work. I don't know how to "reset" the KVM so it'll recognize the new mouse.

Have you tried the new mouse without the KVM. Does it work without the KVM. If it does, then it's the KVM.

Yes, I mentionned "If I plug it directly into a USB port in my tower, it works. " So I know it's the KVM. It's a Trendnet. I guess I should look at their site...

Trendnet KVMs are crap. I used to own a KVM. After a few days, I got so pissed off with it not doing anything, I crushed it.

Even though I found that the problem had nothing to do with the KVM, I still agree with you. It tends to randomly switch to a black screen and back.

I've heard lots of people say Logitech USB mice don't work with KVM switches. They all suggest buying a different brand of mouse.

Staples doesn't offer much else at that price, so I'll have to return this one and look in a different store.

Also, generally, USB mice have trouble with PS/2-style KVM switches. Was recently looking on Amazon.com for one of those PS/2-to-USB dongles and seems they don't work with KVM switches. If you find a combination that works let me know.

That's the $*#&@ about USB ... some items are fudgy... they need more power than others or who knows what, and also.. not every USB port is equal in power either... ;P

Ah, so that's why it doesn't work.... the newer mouse is crappier!
