i dont mind details and such but when people try to cram so much onto a character that it starts to look like a goth shop window front, thats when it starts to make my retinas sting

Then decline the commission if you think it's too much of a hassle? And just because you might think it's "fugly" doesn't mean that the person who made it does. I don't see the point in complaining about it.

less about fugly, and more about how much of a monstrous pain in th ass it can be to draw said things and make it look alright
especially in anything adult oriented,said characters tends to mess with things like composition and logic hardcore, especially given the commissioners suggestions of poses at times.
if people want stuff like that fine , whatevs., but from an artists standpoint it is hell

Or the commissioner who's willing to pay $$$$$$ for a vaguely descriptive character with no references that you just HAVE to get right but you don't want to take millions of hours making a sketch just to check with them over and over.

But my second sona was made colorful just for the hell of it, I always let other artists who want to draw her know that I don't care if they goof on her marks etc. Its just for fun c:
