Best Buy F***** my Xbox!
General
Ah fun times! So, for the THIRD time I'm having my Xbox 360 replaced, which makes four that I've gone through...in under three years.
It gets better:
I (Like a chump) decided to buy Best Buy's extended warranty because I knew the re were issues and that I would likely have to have it replaced. Wanting to avoid the issue, I bought this warranty. A waranty that, having been used, was no longer valid. The first and second times there were price drops, so in a real sense I paid $10 the subsequent two times to have it replaced. -This was acceptable.
But it gets EVEN better....
The third time I had it replaced, they changed their policies. It was now sent out to the service center, and would be mailed to me. This completely negates the benefit of the warranty altogether since the turnaround time with Microsoft is exactly the same. There is no benefit.
But here's the best part, I promise...
Now, since I've sent my Xbox off to what I was told when I called their customer support that it was still eligible with my shiny new 'E-74' Error. So when I sent it off, about a week later they're denying me a fix because the machine's been tampered with:
QUOTE:
"We were not able to provide warranty service for your XBOX 360 console. Our standard inspection revealed that one or more of the following conditions exist, voiding the XBOX 360 Limited Warranty:
· The anti-tampering label on your console is damaged or missing
· We found pry marks, indications of forced entry, or other signs of tampering on the console
The Xbox Limited Warranty states that the warranty shall not apply, and Microsoft shall have no liability, if your console has been tampered with or has been repaired, modified, or altered anywhere other than at a Microsoft authorized repair center."
So yes, Best Buy attempted to fix and replace parts in it themselves. Now when I bought the warranty they agreed to swap it out with one on the shelf, but the terms changed.
This is really messed up. I know I'm late to the party for xbox bitching, but really who wouldn't be pissed after all this bullshit?
The message is clear:
Don't buy Best Buy's warranty. It's a 'use it once and it's gone' sort of warranty. It's stupid to state that having them fix it will void Microsoft's warranty, but that's not what I agreed to, but their terms changed. So pray you don't get the RROD or E74 error more than once because Best Buy won't honor that warranty more than once, and Microsoft won't honor it after Best Buy's gone in there and sodomized it.

Buy a Wii, or a PS3. Either one are better than the 360.
The Wii wasn't bad. There's about a half dozen games that were good, the rest have me flailing around like I escaped from a mental hospital or making 'jerking off' motions.
Sorry. You kinda lost me there. The PSN is free. You have to PAY to be online with the 360. Though I really don't use the PlayStation Home feature, at least I don't have to pay to play games on online servers on the PS3....
"There's about a half dozen games that were good, the rest have me flailing around like I escaped from a mental hospital or making 'jerking off' motions."
I totally agree. I think I have 4 discs, and about 5 WiiWare titles. The rest of my Wii usage is actually for the Virtual Console. I really hate all the party games for the Wii. =>.>=
Ah the wii, what really gets me is the wasted potential. So much crap....Nintendo's been known for generations to create some really unique and fun ideas, but then to shortly drop them in lieu for a quick cash grab with movie tie ins and shovelware. My hopes for the Move and Kinect are the same, but I can pretty much see them taking the exact same course of action. I'm excited to see what they can do...but probably won't...
As for wasted potential, I totally agree. Most of the current Wii titles are all about "fitness," party games or simulating stupid everyday things like cooking. The sad part is that the PS3 seems to have a better Wiimote, from what I've seem with the Move.
Though the Kinect is a joke. It's just a crappy version of the PlayStation Eye of last generation!
...I don't know about that. I'd say their about even. Unless you are talking about indie games. But in that case, more is not necessarily better.
But yeah, that's always an option too, and especially around tax season, it could work out that way. I'll take it to BB and see what I can do.
ugh ~ what a mess. What bothers me is that I'm really good with my hardware, and it's still broken this many times
Here's a copy of something I posted awhile back as a comment on a pic on this topic:

Overall, when dealing with just the hardware, the PS3 is the superior system.
And while the 360 may have better hardware than the Wii, the Wii has far better software support for it's hardware, something that the 360 cannot say.

The 360 does have slightly better graphic. But only just. But there is better use of the graphical capabilities on the PS3. Hell, Even the Wii has some surprisingly great graphics that can outshine some of the games for the 360. And every time that happens, my jaw hits the floor.
You probably know all of this but I wanted to put it out there for those that don't and were interested at all.
Sorry for your loss man. I stick exclusively to the PC these days. I miss my X-Box 360 for Star Wars Battlefronts occassionally, but that's about it :P
1. I have a hard enough time staying on task when I'm trying to get something done to have my game center and my work center on the same machine
2. If i need a break from work, it's hard to do that in front of a computer. I don't really watch TV anymore, but if I can sit down in front of a game for a little bit, that's usually all I need
I hope you get a new xbox, the newer models are nice.
There's a time and place for fanboy banter, and shockingly enough, this isn't one of them. Thanks for the heads up on Best Buy's crap practices, though I try to avoid them altogether.
Lesson learned: When Best Buy give you the finger, give it right back at them and take you precious business else where(like Micro Center :3 )
Thanks for the advice :3
I have a personal thing against Sony for having fucked up Final Fantasy games, and XBox is, in my eyes, only good for FPS games. Which if you're into and you're NOT a jackass fucktard, more power to you for the XBox, then.
As for warranties, yeah most of them are utter crap. We were pushed to sell as many as possible and were teased with a whole "5%" or something, they did this because they were almost pure profit. That and when you know someone and can get a discount, it suddenly become amazingly cheap. I think a plan on our ps3 went from 60$ for two years to 15$, which I don't mind because I actually know the guys that work on it and whatnot so we can't get shafted.
On another note, my girlfriend is also on her fourth 360, I have yet to bother with one, mostly a PC gamer.
Anyway I hope the best for you dealing with that BS Anju D:
Regardless of the 360's track record, here's the real kicker 'I don't game all that often anyway!' It was only for an hour or two a night, but nothing excessive. I can't explain why though, it's just endlessly frustrating. I'm going to try all I can to get them to own up to what I see as their obligation
so forget best buy, make sure you never ever buy from them unless its something cheap enough that you dont need to return it if it breaks.
hello btw! long time no speak! xD
I remember about four years ago I had bought a laptop from them. I think Office Depot offered the same laptop, but for $200 cheaper, even WITH Best Buy's rebate. This was only a week after I had bought it, and I brought the ad up to the service desk, and they explained that they can either match the ad OR give me the rebate. I was furious, and they would do nothing, that's a completely BS policy, and a ploy for them to save money.
Also, when my Xbox had previously died, the employees all kind of rolled their eyes and ignored me. Now, thanks to this economy, they're the only electronics store in town. Awesome...
But yeah, this story of how Best Buy screwed you over...I think I'll keep my shopping at other stores and online.
