How did you come across my FA?

I often wonder how people find out about my little corner of FA. So, if you have time, I would love to hear about how you came to watch me.
I am going to be completely honest about this next subject, as it seems to have had a negative connotation in the past.
Is striving to be more popular a bad thing?
I know intentions weigh in heavily on this subject. I myself am guilty of wanting to be more popular for the wrong reasons. I can admit that, as it is not something that is a day to day thing, but rather small lapses in judgment. Currently I honestly would love to get a tad more exposure to get more of a range of commissions. Even be able to pick commissions I am more passionate about. Though, I feel like begging for attention is where I have to draw the line. I have to ask myself "are you earing your attention, or are you screaming for it?"
Do you ever find yourself being annoyed at an artist when they seem to be over-posting for attention?
It comes down to popularity I feel that frequency of posted work is a big contributing factor. For me this is not a possibility. I am faster at my craft than many, but ultimately in the big picture I am one of the slower builders.
I am curious what you have to say on these matters.

FA+

And trying to be more popular isnt a bad thing, especially as you're running a buisness
When it comes to popularity if you gain it from posting a bunch of journals or mock others or something like that, I don't really think that's a good thing. If you actually contribute something worthwhile to the site(be it gallery content or people just find you a really nice person), then there's nothing wrong with that. Seeking popularity isn't necessarily a bad thing considering you'd like to make more money and actually have a choice in what you want to and don't want to do regarding commissions.
That's just my two cents =)
you were my doppelganger at fwa2006 or something
i think that if commissions are your main source of income (or even just a side source of income), there is nothing at all wrong with wanting to become more popular on FA. more exposure gets you more commissions! wanting to be a "popufur" or whatever is pretty silly, though. in my opinion.
you could just do something really awful like screw a dog or something if you want to be famous right now.
you're only as famous as your haters allow, anyway.
As for the wanting to be popular.. I would really like to do so as well.. Its never bad it do your best to try and become popular.. I would like to be in the sense that i wish people would fav my works of art more instead of passing them by.. I could care less if people wanna buy things from me.. But i'd love for people to be like "omg thats cute", or "that looks really great" but i hardly get that. >>
I used to want to be more popular, but stopped caring. After I stopped caring and started doing whatever (and having a lot more fun as a result), then the popularity thing went through the roof around me. I wouldn't say it's a bad thing when you have something to sell or want attention, everyone wants more exposure for business/recognition in what they love doing.
As for popularity, I'd say striving to be popular is always a bad move. It's best to have a reputation for being reliable and releasing high quality crafts and costumes over being popular. Popularity is very overrated, and popular people are often overrated as well.
As for the popular subject, it's unavoidable. Whenever you get a community or fandom going, regardless of what the subject behind it is, politics and social hierarchies form. It's human nature. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be well known and to make a mark in said social standings. Especially if you're like most 'popular' artists around here who rely on commissions to make a living. In that case, it's just self preservation :P I really do have a problem with a few artist out there who constantly scream for attention, regardless of the fact that they're already swimming in it.
I definately can relate to your ideas on populaity, I'd love to be a more popular builder so I can have extra money for personal suits & get commissioned for weirder suits
I know some popular people who post a bunch of crap just to post. Usually crappy art that is not on their standard, or journals that serve no real purpose at all. It gets rather annoying because good work is lost in the midst of the BS. Personally, I think you're frequent enough, since when you do post something it's usually an eye catcher.
As for striving to be popular, it's not a bad thing...it's how you handle it. From what I can tell, you do quality stuff, and that will gain ya more then enough popularity as word spreads.
It probably also helps I was really impressed with your stuff and was showing it off to friends.
As for the popularity thing, I think it's fairly natural - the fandom is growing to proportions few of us imagined, and it's easy to feel like just a drop in the bucket, another fish in the sea. I get this sense often as well, and as you said, it's not constant. lately it's kinda been toning down, and when it does, it seems like things have just kinda fallen into place. Kinda weird how that happens, lol. But it's even more understandable when it comes in regard to the business side of things - endeavors like that we always want to succeed, especially given how much work it takes.
As far as being popular... *looks up*
I would say you have a really good start. Lucky!
Being popular is something midst everyone wants. Well, maybe not popularity, but at least recognition. Artists that post too much art and scream LOOK AT ME! are obnoxious. T_T
Also you're totally fun to hang out with!
I +watched you...commissioned you...and my suit became your personal hell.
But honestly, you are a really fun person to be around. You are so incredibly passionate for your work. I love being around and associating with people who emanate that passion which is why I commissioned you in the first place.
while i was looking for a Suit maker that had quallity work and quallity personallity to commission.
I found both. : )
And that user is YOUUUUU!
I think you are becoming quite popular as a suit maker as well.
Striving to be well-known is imperative to keep your business successful in the long run, I think. Though perhaps popularity shouldn't be the goal - it should be the result. The result of a strong work ethic, kindness towards others, fantastic suit building, all good things. But popularity, in and of itself, is nothing. It's gone in a flash. Those other skills are what's valuable.
Is striving to be popular bad? Not always. I wanna be more popular on this site so I can get more critique on my art.
