Computer savvy people RAID or IDE? Thanks
15 years ago
I was running a RAID 0 system and have been unable to fix it, I'm thinking of going back to IDE with 5 separate hard drives. I haven't a clue about either TBH
HELP!
EDIT:I've finally managed to wipe the disks. Get rid of the faulty disk and have just set up a RAID 5. I'm just installing Windows again. Hopefully this is an end to my woes and I'll be up and running again!

IDE is barely supported and starting to get more expensive, and SATA drives are already cheap. Unless you have to, I wouldn't bother with IDE. A RAID is a completely different concept, but I wouldn't run 5 drives in a raid 0, any one fails and you've lost all that data. Unless the data is truly that unimportant, I'd use RAID 5 or RAID 0+1. 5 would give you more room, with fault tolerance for losing 1 disk. 0+1 would only give half the total size of the disks, and use an even number of disks.

Well, honestly, I use a RAID 0 with 2 drives and a 3rd for Backup purposes. The RAID 0 is definitely faster, but at a higher risk if one of the drives fail, all the data is gone.

If you have 5 drives and the data is already lost, I highly recommend going RAID-5
