The Meaninglessness of Our Existence
Not sure why, but this concept popped into my head just now.
I've heard a couple times from a couple different people about how nothing we do in our lives has any meaning in the context of the greater universe. No matter what we do, no matter how great a life we lead, it will all be gone in a few billion years; Such a time is naught but a blink of an eye for the greater cosmos.
And I find comfort in that. There's nothing we can do that will affect the universe as a whole, so why worry about it? There are a lot of cool things out there, no doubt, but we can focus all our energies on the here and now, that little part of the universe that we have carved out for ourselves. Plus, if we screw up big time, we can always shift our frame of reference. : P
Random thoughts. I showed up for stats 20 minutes early (effing TTh schedules X3), and figured I'd update the ol' journal. Stay classy!
