it bothers the shit out of me too, i mean, its nothing to be ashamed of. if its important that other people don't overhear you, then you gotta take those precautions. as long as you warn the person youre talking to beforehand that you may have to hang up abruptly it shouldn't be a big deal

I mean yeah privacy is important if what i am talking about needs to be private, but the problem here is that I'm being like this with just regular conversation where I really shouldn't feel the need to hide away when someone else comes near me.

You know, the thing that brings mostly every furry together isn't the animals, the tails, the foxes--well okay, perhaps a bit more focused on the foxes, but anyways--the thing that really brings us some sort of relief and sense of family is the fact that all furs are socially akward one way or another.

Some of them can't keep a conversation going without mentioning yiff, some like me can't really become the fursona identity they want to be without a little help, others like yourself have the tendacy to be paranoid of what other's do or think of yourself, and there are probably thousands of other social akwardness that furs deal with. The thing about the fandom though, is that it tries to let you become whoever you are, by giving you the sense to make yourself into a dragon, a fox, a wolf, a fox, a german shepherd--did I mention a fox?--and if you want, you can try to bring yourself to become that fursona you've put all your effort into becoming you.

And I'm sure you'll be find, that's all the fandom is really about, finding people that are just as socially akward as you, so that you don't feel like you're the odd one in the bunch. =)

Yeah there is a lot of this within this fandom but I'm more concerned about how this is affecting me as well as others in the real world. I really do need to learn to stop being insanely paranoid about things that really don't matter and just be able to talk to people without fearing being over heard or fearing what some will think of me because as I think about it, its really only hurting myself and keeping me down socially. If i can learn to just talk to others where ever and whenever and about whatever than i think this can significantly improve my life in a social aspect and maybe in turn improve things in other areas such as self confidence and so on.

That's true, perhaps you should start out small and instead of hanging around one person, hang out with two or three--ones that you're well familiar with--and then try and see if you can chat with them in a group discussion. It's at least worth a shot, right?
