Yeah, I figured. I just think the prospect of ear-hoops dangling there is kind of a weird one, like if someone's employer told them to get rid of them, it'd take a long time for the ear to go back to normal.

I don't think that's going to happen! Once the hole is made, the healing ability around the area is lost, and the hole will remain! Consider the ear piercings women have, why the hole never seems to close up even though they're not wearing earrings for a long time?

Well, it may not fully close, but it does begin to get much smaller.

I have a friend who had ears like that and removed the peircings.

It depends on how they were originally pierced. If it was done using the classic "gun with stud" method, they'll close up eventually, although there may be a permanent mark/divot where the holes were. If the holes were made using one of the hollow needles, they usually won't close fully, just shrink down, since it actually takes a small core out of the skin. (I used to be an Iverness "certified piercer"--whatever the hell that means--when I was at Spencer Gifts)

I guess I just don't understand why people do it. I mean, it's not the end of the world, but at the same time it's something that's so against the societal norm that it's only intention really has to be for the people who want to believe themselves as nonconformists. >.<

Well, ornaments have small hooks so you could just hang them from a normal earring. XD

As I said before, I see no point to earrings. As for these piercings that are big enough to pass a golfball thru them - makes me shudder looking at them.

I actually enjoy gauging my ears. Though the biggest I'll ever go is 0, because that's the biggest you can go before your ears won't shrink back.

For me it's mostly the quality of the jewelry, I can't really wear many metals because I'm allergic to most, and larger gauges offer wood, glass and ceramic at a high quality without paying an arm and a leg.

I agree that gigantic gauges are gross looking, but I'll bet if you saw mine you'd not have a problem ^-^ Mine are in shrink right now for job interviews, but I'll probably start gauging again soon.

I just have a weird stigma about large holes in the body, so smaller gauges and the like are pretty cool, but I saw this guy at Sam's Club with fake diamonds the size of my palm, and it really threw my through a loop. >.> <.< Hence a random grumble journal.

Simple ear piercing is for pussies like gross orange otters, anyway. xD But, yeah, I could see how gauging is more appealing then ear piercing to that crowd, especially with metal allergies. I'm surprised no one does ear gauge commissions. >w>
