Which of the B&D machines do you have? I have the horizontal machine with dual kneading bars, and I use it about every 2 days. I've perfected this recipe for the French Bread setting (#9) if you're interested:
12 ounces water (warm)
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp cooking oil (I use canola oil). This is optional, but it keeps it from drying out too fast.
3-3/4 cups of flour. (A nice alternative to pure white is to use three cups of white flour and 3/4 cups of multi-grain flour.)
1 tsp bread-maker or instant yeast.
Use the 2-lb loaf setting, and light-crust.
Avoid the temptation to eat the entire loaf in one sitting. ;)
