If it came to the point where we get Horace killed, should I put a death page, and leave the story as it is, or make a sort of hiatus and then after a while (let's say some other story happens) go back to it, and continue from an earlier point?
I'm saying we, because it's at much my part, for putting the obstacles around as it is yours for the votes you pick.
I really want opinions on this, so I can decide how to move things along. When I talked almost a year ago with people on the killing-of-characters and the replaying with different outcomes, I had people argue that giving "infinite lives" would cheapen the character and detach the players from it. This is the main reason why characters have never died so far; but this story was supposed to have death nearer, since it's related to the occult and stuff.
I am giving it too much thought at the idea of going ahead and killing him or look for a loophole and save him myself.
So, I want opinions.
On a completely unrelated situation, I got talked into getting a twitter account, I'm thinking about every now and then show what I'm working on at the moment there. http://twitter.com/caesarcub if you guys are interested.

Of course, that in turn means that if Horace meets the Cthulu creature a third time, he's 100% dead meat unless we figure out a way to stop it.
BESIDES HE THE MOOSE!!!!
Just for death endings though. bad ends where you just get trapped in molestations, no checkpoints.
I'm enjoying Horace and versatile shenanigans... Plus I'm curios to see where the story goes!
I just wish we would hurry up and reach Baghdad, so the story can really begin. Unless the whole point of the story is that we never arrive. (Something like "Die Morgenlandfahrt" ("Journey to the East") by Hermann Hesse.) Although I guess encountering the shadowy creature counts as plot development.
maybe if youu put in a checkpoint system the 1st story line you do would be the most popular but if we die or you think we missed something fun you can ask if we want to repeat it?
It has been pointed out that death isn't the greatest handicap in a story like this (losing your mind once you get to the necropolis (wow I didn't expect that to be in firefox's dictionary) is).
If you wanna do other stuff in between then go for it.
If it is a game, then have it restore from an autosave. Don't give us the option of when to save, to keep people from saying 'SAVE' all the time.
I trust you enough with the storylines that you know when ending it is appropriate and feels right.
I would suggest to set down some rules, for example:
If the character were to indeed die, maybe do a death page. and then split the story at some point earlier in the story. How far to go back should be a static number, say 10 commands or something. That way if the death of the character will be avoided, we'd have to save him in a limited time. Sort of how video games have save points.. I don't think i'm making much sense. but Oh well.. there's my 2 cents.
If Horace were to die, then you could either put end of Ominous Book 1 and then take a hiatus from it. If you were to continue the story some time later (or at all), then you could put Ominous Book 2.
Or.... just do something like :
"Will Horace survive? How will our Hero get unstuck from this sticky situation?! Tune in next time in Ominous! Thank you for participating! Have a Good Day!"
XD
So yeah, if Horace get's killed, can only blame the players for trying to fight something they shouldn't be messing with. Though it would be kinda of a lousy ending for story with good promise so far.
I agree with maniacal mercury. It's a Cthulhu-esque feeling game, you don't fuck with the supernatural.
Easy loophole and fits the story.
And while the characters haven't died before now, I've always felt that they COULD die, as if we were playing a King's Quest game or something. And when they did, like in a video game like that the story would restart at a point that made sense, and even if votes demanded the same actions it wouldn't happen the same way.
I never liked the Sierra games.
TBH, I skipped the section with sex because I -really- just wanted to see the story for mr. moose here. Save Horace!
1. Have Horace wake up from a dream in which the monster was consuming him. Have the nightmare damage his sanity, and have an explanation for why he fell asleep/went unconscious (Maybe he was still really hung over so he passed out).
2. Kill Horace and either end the story or continue in an afterlife. We should suffer the consequences for trying to fight Cthulhu.
And I still think the voting system should be more like a raffle. Also, if you kill off Horace and start a new Fiction, give us another moose.
I really love Horace and I wish you revive him but since its your desicion I have just 2 suggestions
1.- waking him up on the Tavern since its the last place where he was sleeping OR
2.- Like Eternal Darkness Game one of the characters dies but If another character founds the diary and the orb it will learn the life and tales of the lst person who used the journal and eventually incarnate him in a new life and continue the Fight against the Cthulhu to solve the mystery of the orb
well that is just a recomendation its all up to you anyway
That is, things might change in the future :3
