HELP! NEED MOVING ADVICE!

There's a long story somewhere in this that I don't want to type out, but essentially, I'm transferring back to California. (I know, I'm fucking lame, but whatever, circumstances are bad right now and I can't deal with being 3000 miles away anymore). The thing is, all my shit is here. All of it. Almost every worldly possession I own is here. And I need to get it all back to California.
Now, I know that people move all the time and I was wondering if anyone had any advice.
Is there some way I can get all my stuff shipped? And, if so, how much it would approximately be?
I tried looking into UPS, but I kinda guessed on weights and such of objects and it didn't LOOk expensive, but I don't know if I was reading it right.
Anyone that can tell me ANYTHING about this (if there's maybe a moving company that can do stuff like this), let me know!
Thanks!

Ugh, moving sucks. My recommendations are USPS Media Mail, and renting a car if you're old enough for it to not be too expensive. Renting a UHaul for a long trip is very expensive. (A friend of mine priced $800 or so for the trip between Boston and Minneapolis.)
https://www.craigslist.org might also work... you might find someone who is driving out between your areas, and they might be willing to take on some of your stuff for a fee. Or maybe someone will be driving with little luggage, and you could take the trip with them and get some of your stuff over that way.
One friend had things shipped between DC and SF by UPS and it was way too expensive... in the hundreds of dollars, where USPS would have been much, much cheaper. His parents just shipped it out without thinking, and then left him with the bill. :P
Also, if you're thinking of shipping furniture and things, consider trying to sell it off instead. Between the cost of furniture and the cost of shipping, it might be more economical to try to get a little money back, then get some stuff when you move.
Good luck!
I never really wanted to do the moving truck thing. I'm not old enough to rent one and between gas and sleeping arrangements, I couldn't afford it, so that was pretty much out from the beginning.
I was looking at UPS and it actually didn't look that bad (I just did estimations, but it was something like $170 to ship 10 100lb boxes), but maybe I'll look into other shipping companies.
I was also told that certain airlines don't charge too much for extra baggage, so I might check that. Though Delta was $50 per bag, but I guess United is $15, so I don't really know. Time for research, oh boy!
