Okay try this. On on side of the pic a normal a animal and the other a furry version of that animal. Then you can make up some BS and say " I wanted to test my skills to see if I could give human charecteristics to the animal but still keep the key features of that animal." Or you could say " I wanted to see if I could draw a animals personality as if it was almost human".

That is the only way of BSing the audience into thinking that this is not directly furry related art and it would be accepted.

Have you tried looking online to see if the famous artsy people have drawn anything that could be considered furry?

well, think about how the artists in the middle ages did when it comes to nudity. present it more of beauty of it, something normal rather than having to "arouse" the viewer. Check out my works for an example.
Clean art could be anything. maybe a fanart of your favorite TV Show or video game. Who is your favorite celebrity? you can also see some examples on other artists who draw little or no adult works at all. and build yourself an idea.

For me, when it comes to taking a break from drawing sex artworks, I draw either something clean or blood and gore.

dude who cares what we want. draw what you want to see. personally i can handle just about anything... except cub porn and shit and stuff... thats weird. hehe

portfolio/real life outside of fandom-wise,

i try to make my "furry" characters really abstracted and more feral than anything.
representational kind of stuff.

i try to not show my furry work that i post here, not just the porn but even the clothed characters, i would never show to a client or include into my portfolio.

perhaps those in illustration, sequential art, and animation have more freedom in using these characters but otherwise, like in a non-furry gallery, i would keep these things far.
