Played a 3DS
I found out a shop that I go to quite a lot in Manchester has a demonstration model of the 3DS, so naturally I asked about having a go with it.
I have to say, I was very impressed. I only got to play Face Raiders, but it was a great little game to just show off all the new features of the console. For those who don't know how the game works, it takes a photograph of your face with the outside (3D) camera and creates a model with it, meaning that the more people who play, the more variety there is. These models are then superimposed over the environment you're in and you move the console around to aim and shoot them similar to the likes of Space Invaders. There were only a couple of levels available to play, but it had all the qualities of a very addictive game.
The 3D effect deserves mention too. The slider on the side of the screen is very smooth, as is the transition between 2D and 3D as you move it. I had it full one when I was actually playing, though I did experiment a little with the menus. Other people who've played it mention that it takes time to get used to seeing it like this, but I found it to be a couple of seconds at most, and the angle at which you can get the effect is a lot wider than I was expecting.
I'd managed to stop myself from being excited about its release next month, so in hindsight I should have left it alone.
