whoopwhoop! If you have any questions, hit me up. I'm excited to do some crazy demonic goat art!
One question: are the spines/tendrils hard or soft?
As for my computer situation, I just got my new lappy Friday and I just installed my tablet drivers today! I hope to have my half done, soon. I also installed a couple new art programs, but they're soooooo new and foreign to me I'll be sticking with open Canvas for a while. I'm off work for spring break, since i work for school transportation, so I should be able to finish in the next couple days. ^w^
but then the trouble is keeping it all updated. XD
And whatever works. I have a new figment that isn't in there, well, not in his current form anyway - my death kitty - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5255253/ if he strikes yer fancy..
Out of all my characters, I think anyone would realize they are all very similar... At least a large portion of them. They all have their subtleties of course, but I seem to have an affinity to canines. And bats... I like their wings, mostly. Anyway, my point was, most of my characters are just different aspects of myself, different states of being, ya know? So I wouldn't worry about having one concrete fursona. It's like, how it's so much cooler to have in a religious story multiple gods, for then they can have color and shape from one another, instead of one giant omnipotent old man, right? You shouldn't trap yourself in one body, even if it's an imagined fursona, is my point. Make a few!
I mean, I have my basic two- Styx and Xyts. I've made them the root dualities of myself, schisms which are found in everyone. I wouldn't say good/evil, but light/dark, intro/extrovertism, confidence versus shyness, thinking versus acting, dreaming versus waking dreams, and so on. That began to bore me, though, when I began to feel that there is no black and white in the yin-yang, only a rainbow spectrum with a billion shades. I began to want a part of me that was sanctioned to the abstractness of infinity- so I made phasmapter. She can turn into anything, any size, matter, shape, anything. So I never draw her the same twice. Then I've got my old self, my young self. That was my first fursona, just a fox chick with mushroom horns named wyatt. She's not able to shapeshift or anything cool, her only real power is the ability to grow mushroom horns, and eat them, and have them grow again.
And of course I have characters from the story I'm writing. They'll be mostly humanish, most of them. You've probably seen the little white/purple cat, erro. he's always be trippin. =P And I like people with animal ears and tails. I find the ears just so awesome at expressing feelings. it really helps in my comic book stylins.
You should pick a number that feels sacred to you, and draw that many different creatures if you can, and see which ones call to you. I think everyone finds at least one animal that really calls to their soul, if not a few. I'm also a hippie that loves animals though, so that could just be me. I find a lot of animal inspiration in studying ancient mammals. I like to study evolution, it shows you what kind of creatures could have been, you know? Wikipedia has an immense wealth of proto-mammal info. Evolution is like, the true story of our planet, and I don't just mean organic evolution... the evolution from pure energy to atoms to matter and so on to stars and rocks and earth and eventually freak bacteria... our organic evolution is imprinted in our dna, but the inorganic evolution must be stored somewhere too.
wow ramble... sorry for spammin all up in your shiz. I was just gonna write a short response...
but then I got high...
I really ought to return to my pantheon, since I feel like they've really been neglected. I also know I'm lacking in some areas, gotta fill in the gaps! Thanks for the insight! I need people like you to bounce my ideas off of. I also wish I had trees to smoke, no highs for me :( Death kitty is the shit! I kind of want to draw our antagonist/antihero/dark characters.
FURRY EXISTENTIALISM WTF
And there's an odd line I walk with making my characters... I want them to be novel, but still humble and ordinary too. I'd much rather put effort into a flowing scene than just focus on the character... I find so much beauty in nature these days, it's really great in art, all the time. a little tedious, yeah. I've been trying to simplify my comic characters too, because to draw something a million frames again and again... it helps to be simple. more with less is always a win.
Anyway... my dark characters. I have several dark aspects.
Xyts-http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5438357 styx's mortal enemy! is a quiet and somewhat mean person!
Death kitty(kiba) - a black cat shadow with a skull face and scythe tail, but he's styx's personal death, his dark materials style!
Apocracy-http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1974258/ - evil lumpin from my comic project, soul stealer and mind usurper. closest thing to evil.
Owlolly- http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4700629/ - deformed experiment, broken brain, likes to eat.
I guess my main antagonist is Xyts. I say it like Schitz(o), but it could be read any number of hilarious ways too. X3
so what are your antagonist spirits like?

The other would be Cinereous, the blob monster in that Genesis painting. Hahah my brain was getting tired, I had to go take a shower to refresh... Anyways! It's tied to laziness, depression, self deception, and mediocrity. Blobish in all aspects!
I wouldn't say Cnidrex is really dark, but it is paradoxical, and thus has some dark characteristics. For the most part, it's kind-hearted, but just confused and in awe with the universe. I like to think of it as the Tarot card The Fool. Kinda bumbly and kinda intense all at once.

Whee!
I can relate to cinerous too, a little too much perhaps, haha. Anaphylaxis is fucking wicked too... hmm... decisions. You know, I think i feel the Cnidrex. That's the darkness I can empathize with best currently, I think.
Whatever of mine you kinda like, I can give you oodles of info and images on. Death kitty is dark in that he's death, but he is only styx's death, and they're pals. They've kinda got a good thing goin. Xyts wants styx's blue horns, because he thinks he should have had them, and had Styx be given the fire horns that he has. So, he pursues her across the universe, ever shapeshifting and trying to hunt her down. She's a pacifist and an escapist though, she evades, eludes, and hides amongst the local flora and fauna of living planets. Styx also has an electric yellow and blue energy, while Xyts has firey colors and a neon purple. Phas eats styx and others sometimes, but only to merge souls with them and then crap them out again later. That's not really evil so much as awkward.
I have lots of lesser badguys in my stories... but they're tangents of ideas. Apocracy is like a vampire or incubus, I dunno, he shows up in the girl's head, then her life, kind of posesses her now and again. kills some people... feeds on her bad thoughts, and whispers them in her ears. Cannot thrive in sunlight. grows when fed negativity.
whatever you think you'd like to draw, anyway.
