Went to the vet to get a lump on Hedwig checked out, they want $700+ to remove it? We're researching other vets now. It's a given that it probably needs to come out - not sure how long he's had it, but its grown recently and isn't as "loose" in the skin as it was a couple months ago. Probably better to have it out now, than have it get larger and then be even more difficult to remove. Fingers crossed that we can find some place that seems good and will charge less.
I didn't like the place we went, they immediately tried to sell us a "care package" deal that would "help" with the costs... in of itself $300? I've always gone to private vets, never had this sort of pushy behavior previously.
Honestly for all I know $700~ isn't bad, but I'd rather find out...

If you call the SPCA, they might have a low-cost vet clinic they can recommend. c:
I hope it's nothing serious!
The girl tried to make it sound like the package would help [I had visibly deflated when I saw how much it would cost] but for the $300 or so they wanted it would only cover a fraction of what was being billed for the removal procedure. I was a little... insulted. I didn't take it out on the girl or anything, I know it's just her job. She didn't seem like she really WANTED to be saying it, anyway. I've been in her poor, awkward shoes before, lol.
But yeah, Jayson asked around at work for vet recommendations, we researched the ones mentioned and have a couple we're going to check out! I am trying to remain positive, but that doesn't stop hilarious-pathetic situations like me crying while I scoop him off the counter, tears in my eyes "I'm sorry, I have to move you... I'm sorry."
When Chloe was a puppy for the first year she was on the Banfield plan, and now that Colliedog is fifteen she's on the Banfield plan since it covers the routine care she needs like internal organs scans and things. It's nice if "routine care" involves things like rounds of immunizations and stuff. Otherwise it's not really helpful and doesn't save any money.
Stupid vets charging stupid prices. Grr!
But he's worth it and I am going to do everything I can to make sure that we get him fixed up. I was going to sell a nice pair of boots I have for my cc but honestly I'd rather be in debt a little longer than not help out my baybee.
Everything'll be ok. Here's to the best!
