What factors go into you choosing conventions?
What are the top 5 things you look for in a con that make you want to go to it or choose one con over another?
What things would you like to see MORE of?
What things would you like to see LESS of?

Ok everyone so. Lets take FRIENDS/PEOPLE I KNOW out of it cause that is by far the #1 reason... and i knew that, I should have clarified. Next distance/cost, i get
Lets assume you could see everyone you wanted to at any given con, lets go further and say that ALL of them were 1000 miles away from you and would cost you $700-$1000 (single) ($1000-$1300 couple) to attend.
All things considered equal other than what the con has to offer. what events, activities, offerings, panels, etc matter to you? Does length of the con play into it? How long is long enough? How long is too long?
What is it that gets all you crazy critters to spend your hard earned money for an insane weekend?

Time if the year
Suiting environment
Distance vs cost
Size of con vs cost ratio
It's honestly about who will be there, and the time of the year. I'm a full-time student and enployed. I'd rather go to a con, but obligations prevent me sometimes. RF is right before school, and Fc is close, allowing me to travel quicker.
although the NSFW stuff is pretty fun too
but yeah, mostly hotel and cost for me
1. Are my friends going?
2. How much will it all cost?
3. How are the dances?
4. How are the parties?
5. How is the location?
I want to see more community/social oriented events happening. We're all here! Let's all do something!
I want to see less of traditional organization in a convention and something that makes each event stand out high above the rest for thinking of and doing something nobody else thought of. Seeing that alone would reorganize my priorities of interest rapidly.
1) Distance
2) Cost
3) Is anyone I know going
4) What the hotel's like
and 5) ....When it's going down.
What I'd like to see more of and what I'd like to see less of are things I can't answer right this moment...seeing as how RF11 will be my first fur-con....>.>;
2. Location
3. Events (of course mine are dance geared)
4. Word of mouth quality
5. Hotel convenience
Each one can be sacrificed for another like FC was really inconvienient for the hotel needing room money all upfront, however i had a TON of people i know going. whereas RMFC the local con doesn't yield as many people i know as the other cons but it 15 minutes away from my house.
I'd like to see more professional styled/organized events (like the dances this past FC) where they feel like events and not some thrown together happenings.
2. Distance?
3. Cost?
4. Time of Con?
5. Hotel?
Dont know yet what I really want to see more or less of yet... I just flow with it as long as its enjoyable.
2. Past experiences (For instance, I don't wanna go to AC anymore)
3. Location, though that wouldn't really keep me from attending a con
4. Hotel availability (-HATE- overflow hotels)
5. Funds (I'd attend more cons if i had more money)
Would love to see more of a corporate type promotion, for instance, at FWA last year, they had the Monster Energy people show up and hand out drinks all day. Would be cool to see that with other avenues. Maybe have the redbull chicks show up for an event, or a restaurant set up a booth with cheap food.
I know it's usually out of the control of the con chairmen, but would love to see less parties shut down. A better party environment would be nice, figure out a way to give those of age a good, safe environment to party.
Time proximity to other cons
Location (distance)
Friends
Friends
I don't have many out of town friends so where my friends go I'm interested in. That is about it.

I'm don't stop attending cons because the music sucks, or the panels are boring. They don't really affect me.
Now what factors in?
What I think that leaves is: location. Location, location.
I've never been to Eurofurence, but I want to because they always have such amazing places. I mean, who holds a con in a castle?
For a more mundane hotel, I'd chose based on:
- Hotel with good hangout spaces.
- Hotel with good atmosphere.
- Hotel with decent but cheep food.
- Hotel with a nice bar where adults can hide from the kids.
- Hotel with lots of dining choices nearby.
- Hotel with ample parking for people who are commuting to the con.
Also, having a hotel with fur-friendly staff is always a plus.
After location, I think convenient time of year would come next as a criteria. A lot of cons try to spread themselves out from the other cons in time, but the field is getting pretty dense. It seems there's always a con going on somewhere. *shrugs* Not that that's a bad thing.
For it to be as long as possible, I like value.
The size of the dealers room is important, it needs to be big, I like to buy crap.
Parties, I'll probably never go to AC because of the Stalin like no party enforcement there.
Panels, eh, can take em or leave em.
Cuz really I don't go to cons for events. Never have.
-hotel/con relations (this is a huge factor because it has so much impact on how much leeway the con has when it comes to noise, parties, etc.)
-overall con gestalt (i.e., some cons are known to be more or less friendly to various sub-groups within furry-- I'd rather be at a con that's more consistent with my own niches)
-any personal relationship or friendship I may have with con staff
-non-furry connections in the vicinity
-appeal of the theme, and effectiveness with which it's integrated into the con (this is not a significant consideration, but it's of greater than zero importance)
1. Artists (I'm somewhat of an art whore)
2. Music (most of the genres you covered in your panel at FC)
3. Past con experience or reputation
4. A chance to meet new people of possible like mind
5. Do I have to get felt up going through security (TSA)
Can't really think of much more than that...
Stuff that I'm interested in. ' generally assume that there's not going to be many people that I know there, and ' want to have an idea of what 'm going to be doing while there, so if there's nothing interesting, I won't go.
A cool or interesting locale. I'd much rather go to a con in San Jose than a con down here in Watsonville. If the general area isn't interesting, I'd go crazy, because it's hard to stay in the hotel the entire time.
Work. Can ' get a set, or at least some kind of role to play? Even if it's just dealing the poker tournament, ' want to be somewhat productive.
Time. When there's a lull in things locally, preferably.
Cost of stuff in the area. Particularly gas if I'm not staying there.
