You know how I tend to complain about my job a lot?
My body moves, goes where I will. But though I try, my heart stays still.
Well, now that's taken care of, because I don't have a job anymore.
Basically, what happened is this:
The restaurant got a new manager to replace an old one a few weeks ago. Said manager took over the duty of scheduling from another manager who started working less hours. Problem was, she had a bad habit of putting the schedules up later. This week, it got ridiculous. The schedules for the next week are supposed to be up Friday at the latest. When my shift ended just this last Saturday at around 6, the new schedule for this week still wasn't up. I was out of town Sunday, but I still called in to see if the schedule was up in the afternoon. Still nothing. Finally, when I called again at about 9:30 that night, it was up. The person I got told me I had no shifts until tomorrow (Wednesday). Well, imagine my surprise when I come in today after running a few errands to check the schedule in it's entirety so I could plan my weekend, and find out my manager needs to talk to me. Turns out, I was scheduled for today, not Wednesday. Of course I didn't come in when I was scheduled, I had been told I wasn't working until tomorrow.
So I explain to my manager what happened. Did I expect to get some sort of penalty or reprimand? Yes. What I didn't expect was for him to just outright let me go. Not even taking into account that this whole situation was hardly my fault, but it was the first time I'd ever screwed up since I started work there. Un-fucking-believable. The good news is, I'm not getting fired, so there's no blemish on my employment record. Basically what's gonna happen is I just won't get scheduled until eventually I just fade out of the system. Lovely.
It's not like I was depending on this job to survive, but I was depending on it for a lot of things. If I had known I was gonna get let go just like that after one screw up that wasn't even my fault, I would've been spending a lot less money. I mean, it's not like I've been tossing money around like there's no tomorrow, but I've definitely done some extraneous spending the past couple months because I planned on having a job, and I figured if something like this was coming, I at least would've seen it coming and could've planned accordingly.
So yeah, now my income is gone. Again. Fantastic.

OP
They're a small local restaurant chain, they don't have an HR department.

not lawsuit material?

Well, they didn't terminate my employment, so there's no grounds for wrongful termination. Like I said, they're just not going to give me any hours until I'm out of the system.

Ask a lawyer friend to find a loophole xD

Again, it's not a legal issue. They didn't terminate my employment, they're just not giving me hours. I'm part-time, so they're not required to schedule me hours. They can do it to any of their part-time workers. There's nothing illegal here, just really unfair.
