Current update, to do list, and cinematic disappointment
14 years ago
ZOMG.... Sucker Punch came out Friday. I WAS soooo excited! And yes I'm a chick... and yes I'm straight... but WAS soooo.
And it was a complete disaster... I'll probably write a full review later after all of my thoughts have fully gathered after watching this goulash but I'll say this much now... I was FULLY disappointed.
Oh I was super stoked to see it too; and I was really interested to see how it would mesh together because it is do able. Instead it pretty much failed at pretty much everything even down to costumes. It was as if he literally forgot story writing 101, any sense of character development, and the intriguing details weren't pushed enough. There wasn't even a "sucker punch" (literally yes but the idea was to be a figurative and emotional sucker punch). The only "emotion" I took away from the film was "poor baby dragon".
The Wonderland deck still has open slots!!!! Get them while they last!!!

(deck info: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/1993096/ )
Examples:
Number cards are all that remain (so roles are basically the commoners... bakers, soldiers, workers, etc) but don't be sad or worry... your commission is still important, valued, and treated with the utmost care.

All other commissions are open as well.
If you like the theme of Alice in Wonderland and want your character done but don't want to be apart of the deck project, I will have some more info soon on Wonderland portraits!
All portraits will be a flat rate of $30. Since era attire is one of my specialties. You'll have the choice of general (themed) or pinup (swimsuit/ lingerie/ etc) which can be inspired by major characters (or if there is a character you like that I can't remember let me know), royal court, etc. (very flexible). The backgrounds will be just flat color but you'll have a choice of 4 themed borders (queens garden, tea party, miniature, and games). More info and borders coming soon!!!

Ummm no. The movie was going to be a Zach Snyder original. All he's done in the past was make books into movies. So this was something he created and co-wrote. The main character called Babydoll has always been a symbol for him (he's had sketches for her) so he turned her into a character and made a movie for her. It was suppose to be a unique, bold mad-lib style for a movie. It was primarily marketed towards men/ "empowering" for women. He threw Babydoll into a horrid environment that included abuse, rape, death, and murder... who then was forced out of that environment and put into a crooked asylum by her crooked stepfather. This all sends her to her doomed fate of an unnecessary lobotomy (the step father pays a worker to forge the therapist signature for the procedure so basically police can never get her TRUE side of the story). You find this all out in the intro (which the intro was PERFECT) and the rest of the film is her trying to escape her brutal fate... which evolves into this fantastical, action packed quest that comes out of these worlds in her imagination. The main male figures are absolutely evil. On top of this he was taking all the elements that geeks love (dragons, zombies, german soldiers, robots, and orcs)... and mixed in what was suppose to be a musical (which he failed at because it wasn't blended probably and the songs that babydoll actually sings are just played in the back ground). So the trick of it all was how to take all of these elements and make one cohesive film and be left feeling like you've been emotionally "sucker punched".
Which this is COMPLETELY do able!!! Like there are elements that worked and the overall theme worked. It was just horribly executed. It turned into looking like he just wrote these ideas all down like a list after a dream and never edited it or figure out how they would actually work together. He threw out even the basic writing 101 skills... forgot proper character development. The marketing for this movie says more about the movie than the film itself. The posters released had all the girls having some unique attributes. They were all dresses as stereotypical submissive archetypes (which I noticed the first time I saw the trailer and was suspicious so I looked it up to make sure I was right)... babydoll's a school girl, rocket's a military nurse, amber is a girl scout, etc . But I haven't the slightest clue of what Blondie (I thought saloon girl but saloon girls aren't submissive... either way she should have been a french maid) and Sweet Pea are. Also they each had skills. Katana, Broad sword, daggers, guns, and vehicle (the toki doki robot). This wasn't done in the film. They all primarily used guns. The only characters that used their skills to their best... were Babydoll used a katana and handgun, Amber was the vehicle expert, and Rocket used her daggers in one fight. Since I've seen it just yesterday I've pretty much fixed the movie myself. But it would require going back to pre film to do it. You can't just save it from the shots they have unfortunately because it's the actually story build that needs the work.
Which at first I was so pissed about the turn out that I wasn't going to write a full critique and just leave it at the same comments that the critiques have but since I actually had really high hopes for this experiment... I'll fully write one... even including the costume tweeks. The concept of the film is good enough to deserve it. He had more than enough to make a hit movie.
