What is fetish

According to my knowledge, fetish defines some kind of a liking of an object, but it seems the definition of fetish is more widely known with sexual meaning (arousing, turning u on lol) rather than the normal meaning i said above there, so that makes it a sexual fetish? Does that mean there are more different kinds of fetish? Im not talking about the kind of fetish object, but how that fetish makes people feel.
Hope you can share your experience or opinion cause I'm curious and does not understand the concept of fetish much

There is a slight difference between a fetish and a sexual fetish
Furry is considered a "fetish", and within Furry there are sexual fetishes such as BDSM, Macro/Micro, Vore, Scat, etc. (there are many of these types of fetishes, it's a hard job naming all of them)
In Christianity, the Holy cross is considered a fetish
it is given a power of which is divine
Another word for this would be "Idol-ism"
So fetish only has 2 meanings as you said, one is a kind of praised like a divine power, and the other is sexually arousement? Do you think there are different feelings that fetish give us besides the divine power or arousing?
Còn về Sexual Fetish (ở furry) thì Es cũng không rành lắm, nhưng cũng tựa tựa như Sketchkat nói là mấy cái trên. Trong số đó thì chắc fetish của Es là muscle rồi :P.
I dont really have a true sexual fetish, but i do have a fetish of glow in the dark stuff. I'm completely obsessed with it. I would like to pain one of the rooms in my house a dark blue and have a splatter of glow in the paint <3
So what got you thinkin about this?
Btw glowy things are the coolest ever, cool and beautiful. Your idea sounds great, paint the ceiling dark!!reminds me back then, one day i bought a bunch of glowy sticks, sticked them on the ceiling of my room, turned off the light and enjoyed the coolness XD
So you're curious about fetishes huh? I've been into a few things here and there though even I'm not 100% sure if that's really a fetish or kink or not. I never really thought about it until now that you mentioned it. What about you? What are YOUR fetishes? lol
My fetishes? Idont know lol food?
"fet·ish /ˈfɛtɪʃ, ˈfitɪʃ/ Show Spelled[fet-ish, fee-tish] –noun
1. an object regarded with awe as being the embodiment or habitation of a potent spirit or as having magical potency.
2. any object, idea, etc., eliciting unquestioning reverence, respect, or devotion: to make a fetish of high grades.
3. Psychology . any object or nongenital part of the body that causes a habitual erotic response or fixation.
Origin: 1605–15; earlier fateish < Portuguese feitiço charm, sorcery (noun), artificial (adj.) < Latin factīcius factitious; replacing fatisso, fetisso < Portuguese, as above"
despite the 1. definition being the origin, it's probably the least used. most people use the third term (i've also heard it used as being a trinket or design, usually on clothing, but that does not seem to be listed, perhaps i am mistaken and misheard or misspelled, or perhaps it links with items being important).
you will find slight variations on the different meanings, often for more specific purposes; such as a medical dictionary listing it more as leinir has explained. i think a good description of fetishism is "a condition in which the handling of an inanimate object or a specific part of the body other than the sexual organs is a source of sexual satisfaction". or more broadly, something being irrationally sexual to someone (fondness for penises would therefore likely not count, but getting an erection over a pair of socks would).
often the fetish is an object, theme or perhaps even sensation/feeling (for sensation/feeling, it's usually one associated with being negative/unpleasant), or just an idea (might be too abstract or dangerous to carry out in real life, which makes art a good way of it being expressed). you will find all sorts of fetishes in the artwork on here. some people believe everyone has a fetish of some sort, but i am sure there are those who have none, and it would be nothing to worry about. some fetishes might interest you, some might disgust you, and some might leave you feeling plain confused or even amused.
it is hard to give reasons for peoples fetishes (many think they are childhood related, devil-dog93's being a good example) or give explanation of what it is they enjoy about the subject. it varies from person to person. so to be sure, you'd have to ask them - chances are they wont mind you asking about it.
i would share, but there really isn't anything i have a particular enthusiastic interest for. some people do seem to think i have a specific interest in overweight people, but whether body type counts as fetish, or just regular preference, it's hard to say. it would depend on the level of enthusiasm / arousal. i think finding something attractive on a person is not enough to be called a fetish. but if i were to actually become aroused by the idea of fat, and my focus for sexual pleasure was on that, then it would be a fetish.
i can completely understand people's confusion with this and other words in the english language. words seem to evolve, and the way they do, doesn't always seem to make sense, or the word is left lacking clarity. (fetish seems a tough word to define, because it's meaning seems to be both broad and specific). for native speakers, it's just something they have heard used in context so many times, and they are used to it. but when they analyze the words, or try to pinpoint actual meaning, it is easy to understand why some people struggle. i can only assume varying meanings have appeared over time mainly due to misuse and misunderstanding; when this misuse becomes commonplace, it's officially adopted. although for things like fetish, it could be intentional misuse for wanting to use a word that is more polite, or less direct. a bit like calling a woman enchanting, rather than telling her you want to ejaculate on her face XD.
I think you get the picture.
