Sometimes You Just Gotta Say WTF...
The Oregon legislature recently adopted a resolution exhorting those of us in this fair state to live by the 'Code of the West'. Sounds awesome, doesn't it? Makes me want to get a sixgun, or something, or get me a horse and learn to ride it, and usin' the phrase "ah reckon" a lot more. Yup.
Another part of me is just a little bit squicked, though. Here, read all about it:

Apparently, the 'Code of the West' was invented by a Wall Street banker/hedge fund investor (crook, in other words) who all of a sudden thinks he's like, a cowboy.
SQUICK.

Now, I know this doesn't really change anything, which is good, but I question the motivation of the bill's sponsors. I also question Mr.Owen: How the FLYING FUCK does a Wall Street banker live by anything even remotely approaching the so-called 'Code of the West'? More like lie, cheat and steal, and you know what we do to people who do that kinda thing around here, pardner. (we re-elect them. Oof.) RIDE FOR THE BRAND! YEEE-HAW! Yer liable t'git more lobbyists' dollars that way, pardner.
I know, it's just more puffery, and I shouldn't get my britches in a wad about it, but... something about it just makes me twitchy. I'm not real comfortable with this whole nostalgia thing, it seems almost like desperation, wanting to not face the facts.
Be honest, loyal and courageous. That's all I'm trying to do here, I reckon.

of person does it take to get up in the middle of the night,
saddle up his horse and set out into a raging blizzard — all
to rescue a calf he doesn't even own?"
specifically im refering to phrases like these though that seem to imply the cowboy does this out of the kindness of his heart and not for a pay check
Cowboys and investment bankers = apples and oranges.
