So, right. I decided something today. I like it when people's fursonas/avatars have a body type like theirs--Or at least a realistic one. Keep in mind--I'm not like, "zomg! Everyone needs to be realistic or they suck!" Lemme explain.
So right. Our Avatars are supposed to be reflections of ourselves, right? That's a huge part of this whole "fur" thing, and an oft-overlooked part, right? Well... In real life, I know we pretty much all spend way too much time worrying about our society's convention of beauty and attractiveness. I know it's a big problem in the 'States. Every checkout isle in every convenience store is practically lined with big, plastered images of "stars" in perfect make up with probably thousand dollar clothing and hundred dollar haircuts and bodies they either starved themselves to death or took dangerous diet pills to get. Every underwear brand box has pictures of perfectly in-shape models or bodybuilders all over it. Our movies all feature heroes whose actors work out four hours a day for months and then wear man-thongs while doing cg-d stunts no one could possibly pull off (No offense, 300, but come on.) And these are the standards we're supposed to aspire to--Some of which are like, downright dangerous (I cite anorexia and bulemia rates). These are the things we're supposed to want to be.
Frankly, I get sick of it. So I am of the opinion, why let it affect us here? Forget all those judgments and standards of our media. It's about being who we are, and celebrating that. So to me, symbolically, using your own body type reflects that. Don't let someone else's arbitrary idea of beauty control your ideal self. Those constructs tend to get way out of hand as a society progresses anyway (I cite crushed feet of eastern cultures, and "molded" heads of certain South American cultures.). Honestly, most people's avatars can still be attractive and cool looking with their body type. Or at least a realistic one.
Now, once again, I'm not starting some huge rant or crusade here. Not many people at all even read this. After all, it's your ideal self. It can be anything you want it to be. We're already part-animals, sometimes more than one, sometimes imaginary creatures, sometimes completely made up stuff. I just think here, we should be at most, who we are.
After all, that's what it's about. At least to me.
