The Last Lions

I saw The Last Lions last night. For those of you who haven't heard of it (probably everybody if it's box office/marketing is any indication), it's a National Geographic Film about a lone lioness in Africa attempting to survive and raise her cubs without her mate, while a rival pride is trying to hunt her down. It truly was a gripping tale, one that held my attention from beginning to end, and the footage that was captured is unbelievable. There are some incredibly gruesome moments in the film (especially for one rated PG), and some scenes that ripped my heart out and left me bawling like a baby, and at the end, I felt like standing up and cheering. The narration by Jeremy Irons (you might know him as the voice of Scar from The Lion King) is truly excellent. There's probably a bit too much anthropomorphizing for a true-life nature flick (though for furries, is that really a bad thing?), but the story that is told is exciting and the way he tells it is both understated at some moments and conversely overwhelming at others. I would highly recommend seeing this picture to anyone who likes nature, felines, and/or survival and revenge stories. I'd give it four paw marks out of four!
