London - Day 4
Hey all, another quickie journal on my trip. I'm a bit tired and as it's presently 10 pm here (I need to be up around 4 am tomorrow) I can't be online too long.
Today the husband and I started our day with the Tower of London. Now, it isn't as much a tower as it is a fort. Also, it's a BIG fort. We spent almost 2 hours wandering it, and we didn't even see everything there! One of the things we saw there was the literal freaking crown jewels! I was a bit surprised that the public should be allowed so close, but it was very cool. We also got a close look at about a dozen royal crowns over the course of English history.
The next stop was something a bit more fun, the London Bridge Experience. Think LARP in a historical sense, complete with blood, gore, and pretty awesome stage effects. Add to this that not one, not two, but three of the performer singled out my husband to pick on. Ah, that was funny. This led into a haunted house walk called London Tombs, which was kind of passable, Mme Tussaud's version was much better realized.
We then wandered along the river taxi to The Globe theatre. We had an awesome tour guide, and got to see the recreation (1989 or so) of Shakespeare's Globe. This was very awesome, including the marble pillars on stage (which turned out to be painted wood, hence the awesome factor). Unfortunately nothing shows until late April, so we had to be sated with the tour.
We grabbed some supper and then wandered up and down the Thames in a water taxi until nightfall. I managed to snag an awesome picture of the Tower Bridge at nightfall. Oooh, so gorgeous!
Anyways, off to bed. I have to be up for 4 am for Stonehenge tomorrow. Whee!
