University + movie reviews + I'm sickies! T.=.T

I'm very sorry that I haven't been very responsive, both on FA and my IMs, university is taking most of my time. :'( I have a mofo of an exam this weekend then straight after that I have three weeks to write two massive essays then the day after that I go out on placement for two weeks! If I survive placement I have two weeks to study (And chat with you lovely people) before my finals for this semester. In short university is being a fun sucker.
Also I am barking like a seal and no that isn't a furry thing. Neither my sister nor myself have been sick in the last two years that we can remember but a week ago my sis' boyfriend came home with a cold and we sort of picked it up for some reason or another. My sister developed a strange symptom today, her eyes are watering that much that it looks like she is crying! XD Me, I have the usual ailments except that I have a gnarly cough, a fever too but I have a higher than normal body temperature anyway.
In other news I was going to write up three massive movie reviews for all of you but I don't have the energy so here are the basics. (In hind sight they are actually pretty long. XD Epic fail, Greenwing.) Also please don't flame/troll me, I am giving my opinion.
Rango: No... just no. I went to see it with a friend and his two younger siblings and all of us hated it. They try to make the movie appeal to both kids and adults at the same time and they stuffed it up big time, their target audience walked out of the cinema bitching. The main character is soooooooooooo annoying until about half way through the film and the story itself is kind of predictable, except the end. Also it is surprisingly violent! I couldn't keep count but I would say that about 15 'people' died in the film, quite a few were off screen (Although you know that they got/get killed) two others are crushed, one is shot and I don't know how many crash/fall to their deaths. Oh, and there is an armadillo that is cut in half by a car riding over him! You don't see any guts cause I presume that they were crushed together but whatever. Somehow he pulls himself back together and walks away though. A few of the jokes are inappropriate too, for example a guy doctor pulls on a glove randomly and says something about a prostate exam. Also there is a character called the 'Spirit of the West' that is played by Timothy Olyphant... I think that they used him cause they wanted it to be a surprise for Clint Eastwood otherwise they would have gatten him to lend his voice. Hell Rango even calls him 'the man with no name' and the character looks almost exactly like Clint in the picture on this wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_with_No_Name The movie is set is a western-ish time so everyone has guns but that is unrealistic at times. A revolver is meant to kill something 10 times your size? In one scene a revolver is pointed at a snake and he gets worried... when the bullet wouldn't even be able to pierce his skull... That isn't to say that it is TOTALLY unwatchable, I just wouldn't pay to see it. (We had free tickets) For example the 'main' bad guy is awesome; evil, clever, blood thirsty, heavily armed... and a snake! Everything that one could ask for. He also has a sweet one liner and Rango makes a joke about them being brothers, something along the lines of "'Our mother had an active 'social life'" XD Also there is FINALLY a movie that has I can gives an accurate depiction of Absence seizers! Another point to note is that the animation is flawless and the movement very fluid.
Sucker Punch: I walked out this movie rather disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty epic, a true visual feast and will be a hit with anyone that loves manga but there was just so much of it that was so, so wrong. The start is beautiful, it is dark and sets the pace very well but what you don't realise is that you are going to be seeing a lot more of this than the action that you are came to see. A creepy twist on an old song helps with the start. Seriously, just listen to it and you will get a glimpse of what it is like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQzG-3Vagrk That is something that I can't fault, the music in the movie is really great except for a butchered Queen song. Anyway this film doesn't have the happy ending that most do, I won't say any more but... yeah. The action is really well done if you don't mind it being seriously unrealistic and the story itself is very unpredictable (except for the fate of the main character) but I have some serious issues with the film never the less. First of all you can see this film as two different things, you can see it how it is presented, that there is a mental institution and the owner of it also owns a club nearby, he exploits the girls and they try to escape OR at the end it is hinted at that everything took place in the girl’s head, that she really was crazy and that was just her mind trying to work things out and to find peace. Personally I prefer the former but meh. Also it is just too unrealistic for me, the girls in the dream sequences just own all the baddies too easily no matter how fake it is. Their plane rams a dragon and it still flies, they toss an orc/fugly dude into a propeller and it still flies, the main chick takes down a mother fucking zeppelin with half a WWI machinegun clip! I’m sorry but don’t insult zeppelins like that, they were much tougher. Also the bad guys are so stupid, I understand that melee combat was rather popular in WWI but if you are getting owned constantly you shoot the people! Another pet peeve is that the main chick has a samurai and she is godlike with it. The other girls had cool melee weapons like a kiff knife and another an axe but the best weapon (IMO) never got used! Dude, you have a claymore on your back USE IT! But that is just me loving European weaponry and hating that Japanese swords are given a godlike status in comparison. Then there is always the fact that the good guys need to gloat to the baddies and Not kill them. Dude, come on, they hurt you and if you let them live they will either kill you or hurt you, maybe even give you a little brain damage at the end of the movie, just be a man and kill them. (Can’t tell that I was raised in the RSA, can you?) Anyway there are two REAL reasons why I hate the movie but you should skip down to avoid any spoilers. Like right now, stop reading. A lobotomy is a TERRIBLE medical procedure and... just no, there is no reason to perform it, there are always alternative treatments available. That is a fate worse than death. And then there is the hatchling killing... This isn’t even because I’m a fur, I have always loved reptiles and one of my first memories was going to see Dragonheart when I was... 5? 6? Anyway since then I have adored dragons, they were never monsters to me just misunderstood animals or something. I felt sick watching that and had a 5/6 year old me seen a hatchie get killed that way on screen, holy shit. It was so unexpected, the chick steps over the dragon’s neck and it looks like she is stroking his face before she moves her hand to grab his muzzle and slit his throat. Fuck, I felt so bad, he looked like a little angel sleeping... on a pile of bones... that were probably human... never the less, what was wrong with her? And why would a dragon have crystals in its throat? And if you slit someone’s throat they take much longer to die and there is a SHIT LOAD more blood.
Paul: Yes, dude/dudette, this is an epic movie! I’m not a complete nerd but I am clearly getting there because I understood every joke that was made in it! If you enjoyed either Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz then you will love Paul! It starts off really slow and boring but then out of nowhere -BANG- Paul shows up (Voiced by Seth Rogen!!!) and these two British guy’s lives are turned upside down. They might have been nerds before but now that they are dealing with an actual alien... hahaha, they are completely clueless! Paul is a little bundle of fun; he can go invisible when he holds his breath, the can show you things with his mind, he can do the ET healing trick (Actually he told Steven Spielberg that aliens could do that, but shhht, it is a secret. :P) he has emphysema from smoking too much, he is bi, he is great at telling jokes and he’ll help you get the girl of your dreams! Just be careful, he likes to walk around in the nude and flash people. XD On a more serious note the movie is a comedy (Although one in which a few people die) and it is aimed at a particular audience, namely nerds who don’t mind taking the piss out of themselves. It is still a great comedy but ‘normal’ people probably won’t get the references made in the film. Also Sigourney weaver is in yet another movie with aliens! Anyone remember http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDqTwSO1DDc ? THAT IS IN THE MOVIE! Although it isn’t used in the same kind of context. Still I watched a pirated version of this with some friends (It only get released today in the cinemas in AUS) and we all cracked up at that for some reason. “Get away from her, you bitch!” That line is just too epic to restrict to one movie I guess. Heh, I probably bored you enough with the other two reviews so I’ll just leave it at that but i would definitely give Paul a watch, even if you just download it please give it a chance, it just gets better as it goes on, you even get to see that Paul has a pretty big heart near the end, even going to the person who’s dog he crashed on so say sorry and to make up for all the suffering that she endured throughout the ages. Please, watch Paul, you might not like it even if you aren’t the target audience.
Wow, what was meant to be a short update on my life got really big. Damn, I was even going to start posting my commissions or start editing a story that a really awesome guy put together for me. Oh well, I guess it will just have to wait until after the exams. I need to go sleep if I can stop seal-barking long enough that is.
P.S. I hope that this all made sense, it was written at a late hour after a day of studying... while barking at the screen like a seal. XD
