Nano diamonds.. they are fabricated. Diamonds for industrial use have been manufactured now for decades. They are used for machining, coatings and various other things. They are, however, crappy looking so they are not useful as a gemstone, only where a super hard surface or edge is needed.

Well yah, nano *IS* really small. :) though it doesn't necessarily mean that they took big gem diamonds and ground them up to make nano diamonds. More likely they used some kind of high pressure deposition or some new technique fro growing them that makes small teeny tiny itty bitty teeny weeny miniscule ittsy bitsy (etc so on and so forth) diamonds... still though, putting it into pencil lead DOES seem kind of odd. :) but industrial diamonds are super cheap.
