I hate to tell you this but 'legality' is a poor excuse for taking a holier-than-thou stance on something. I'll smoke as much as I want cuz I'm not hurting anyone by doing so. In fact, I generally need to smoke weed in order to sleep due to a chemical imbalance causing me to be unable to sleep just about every other day of the week. When I CAN sleep, it's often only for three hours. Prescription narcotics to help me sleep make it worse instead of helping.

Why don't you also tell people who are suffering from cancer and multiple-sclerosis and are in pain who have found that smoking weed alleviates pain ten times better than morphine and vicodin while also lacking the resistance/addictive properties that morphine and other pain killers cause is bad just because "it's illegal." I know folks who toke up, one does it because he actually has medical reasons he does it. The other, is a mentally challenged guy, he claims he does it to keep himself stable mentally and emotionally, I haven't noticed a change in his attitude, so I chock it up to him just being a recreational user, and a loser. No, really though, the day of silence is a metaphorical thing. Its point is to symbolize how people that are often bullied (Both to the point of suicide and prior to it) stay quiet as well as a comment on how (during its time of creation, in 96) the media tried to shut up people demanding gay rights. In actual use though, the silence can cause quite a bit. My own school during my years in Highschool actually did not permit a teacher to force a student to talk on this day, out of respect. In turn this actually raised awareness of the day, and in turn its origins.

You also forget to take into account on your entry the concept of physical abuse. Do you think this is acceptable? Oh, and before I forget. Its not a gay thing, its an anti bullying policy, it wasn't a bunch of homosexuals, but the GLS national network.

Again, I've seen pot use firsthand, Both in friends, and with my parent. Half the time she was so stoned she couldn't even cook dinner for me and my infant sister. I had to grow up when I was a kid to take care of my sister and mom. Don't tell me that drugs doesn't fuck up a persons life. I never smoked anything in my whole life. Never touched alcohol. I'm leary of prescription medicine. Yet, my life was screwed up before I even hit puberty, because of this shit. In moderation, it could be used correctly. But ya know what? Steroids in moderation could do wonders for the medical field as well. Who knows how to use things in moderation though? When you feel good, you don't want that feeling to go away. So you overuse and abuse.

I don't speak out cause I'm an asshole, I speak out, cause I lived through it. I don't think anyone else should have to. So, instead of being silent about issues that need to be dealt with, I speak up. Maybe not on the front steps of the whitehouse. But, I speak up.

Actually, I agree suicide is a pathetic way out. However its also something that most people don't realize has two sides. There IS a possible genetic pre-disposition to it (Similar to addiction), as well as people who just happen to do it. The first category is actually extremely sad and I personally have to deal with it. Although anyone with any willpower at all SHOULD be able to fight through it, it's not that hard and pretty pathetic actually.

As for self defense, knowing a few people in law enforcement, they all advised the same thing to me during my High school years as well as after. Dont. Self defense concepts are vague at best, and often result in the self defense party being arrested or sued for physical/mental damages.

I've seen older stoners, a guy that my friend knows is like....50 and still a stoner. Its kind of funny really. As the friend that knows him, is also a stoner(medical) And, this older gentleman, owes him like, 6-8 months of back pay. We all know he's not getting paid, cause the older man is too busy wasting his money on getting lit up. Tack onto this, the fella just had a kid with his 40 something year old wife. I just can't understand how someone would have the mentality to think its not only safe, but decent to raise their child in such an enviroment.

It's just part of the human condition. Few of us can break from it, and honestly I see the idea behind it. If you feel safe and secure in a system, why would you want to leave it? Why would you want to go back to a place that isn't personal? Unfortunately these people also don't realize that eventually they have to grow up. Eventually your life is going to be over, and when you look back at your death bed, what are you going to have? A single room house with a ton of pot? If you can balance your life and using pot, good for you, but don't introduce others to that life style. Don't let them grow up figuring that this is all normal or safe, because it isn't.

The two people I mentioned before? They have a daughter who has no interest in drugs. The primary reason? They told her about everything they did, they told her how its not safe, how dangerous it is. No scare tactics, just a respectful level. They both just woke up one day in their lives and dropped the drugs they still did when she was a child, they fixed life before it was too late.

So really, its a flat message, if your doing pot around your kid, your just lying to yourself. Your putting your child in danger, maybe not from as high cancer rates as a cig would do, but jail time follows.

First, no offense was intended at the concept of presence of a mother. Its really a two sided coin in all ways. My father committed suicide before I could ever meet him, and to this day I'll go between sudden bursts of anger because I'll never know the bastard, as well as not caring at all. I really do forget at times that not everyone shares this double sided feeling because its in that rather unique between point (The fact I could have, but his own chose, instead of the cruel hand of fate deciding for him). Think about it, he ranted about how silence does nothing to stop bullying, if someone actually paid attention to him because of it though, it would also draw their attention TO the concept of "Day of Silence", in turn spreading the word.

My point? He ranted BECAUSE he thought people being silent did nothing, so in a way, silence did do something, caused him to rant, and people to pay attention to the concept of bullying. Hell, I wouldn't be caught off guard if this was the entire point of the day of silence, to get people to speak up about the day itself, in an opposing view, rally people up.

Now, onto the idea of respecting him. Yes, hes judging you based on a minority, and in turn showing little respect, but honestly do you not do the same on occasion? Illegal immigrants, people of the opposite political affiliation, people from the South/North, skin color. We all have pre-defined prejudices in us and can you say you don't hold at least one, even if you don't WANT to? In fact, the only way to not have one would to be pulling a literal "Bible perfect Jesus" and accept everything, with no personal opinion on any subject at all.

For the record, the definition of prejudice I'm using is "unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes" which honestly, could be defined as ANY feelings. You can't really justify emotion in general, its not logical, that's the main flaw with humans. Its why we do things that harm us, why we chase after people we love, no matter how hopeless it is. Emotion corrupts, but its what makes the difference between us and the birds in the trees outside. (Really makes ya think about what it is that draws us to the furry random doesn't it? Is there perhaps a much deeper psychological connection between fur-fans and emotion then anyone else? We do cause a LOT of drama. Look here!)

You should respect him, not because he deserves/does not deserve it, but because you want the same. Treat your brethren like you wish for them to be treated. In the end of the day, being kind to someone, even if they do nothing but treat you in a rude manner can make them stop before they sleep. It can make them think about how they acted, how you remained respectful to them and actually cause them to change their views.

So in short, what I'm essentially trying to say, is be human, even if the people around you don't want to be, because an eye for an eye will make the world blind.

Well i'm not one to take sides on things. Even as a gay guy myself, I don't think sitting and being quiet is going to get us anywhere. However, at the same time, i'm not going to make a scene just because someone has a problem with how I am... All in all, if i'm ever in a situation where someone is talking bad about me, i'll just go about my business as normal. Words are words, not weapons.

If there's one thing I learned a long time ago, its that people are gonna talk shit about you till the day you die and there's nothing you can do about it. Ya just gotta live your life to the fullest and enjoy the experiences and friends you make along the way.

I have the feeling those who came up with that "day of silence" thing, assumed they were doing something similar to the lunch-counter sit-ins in the '60s for Afro-American civil rights. They would be retarded for thinking so, and I shouldn't have to explain why.

Honestly, I don't know if I could say exactly what the LGBT population needs to push forward and become equal citizens... Except that in the words of Lewis Black, there's no champion for them in Washington, and very few in Hollywood that anyone takes seriously, because it's hard enough to take Hollywood itself seriously in the first place.

As for pot... I'm a former user, between the ages of 18 and 22. Though its effect on your psyche and/or body are very different from alcohol, they have a lot in common, as far as the pros and cons. Very few pros, very many cons, and how many of either apply to a person is in direct correlation with their level of self-cotrol, and their reasons for using in the first place. So all in all, neither are really worth it for the risk involved.

And my final point, while I don't have a problem with effeminate gay guys (if that's the way they naturally are, then so be it), I do take issue with things like pride parades and flaunting some over-the-top, usually-grotesque image that only serves to fuel the hate-coffers of a large group in America who would love nothing better than to to remain ignorant and follow the ranks of Westboro Baptist Church. These people have enough presence around us, let's not give them any more ammunition, or any reason to believe that a drag queen having promiscuous glory-hole sex in a dance-club bathroom is what we're ALL like.
