Prolly why they shut the electricity on me off when I moved in to my place a year ago, Damn idiots took 2 days to turn it back on. The electrician pulled my meter off (had lockout tabs in it) cut @ tags then did a giant oops and called my landlord and his boss right away.

Its likely mis-understanding about termination dates about occupancy, or an unsettled account. their pretty quick about disconnecting services once a home is no longer occupied..

Better get a hold of the public utilities commission ASAP and let them know its occupied again. If you already set up an account you should have proof to bring it down there or get on the phone so they can get it turned on (or give you permission to) right away. If its an unsettled account get your lawyer who did the deeds to help you out with it as well as any Realtor cause its not your responsibility.

im certain it is a misunderstanding but i would turn it on myself but i dont want my mom to get in trouble when they turn it back on

yeah which is why you need to confirm it with the public utility about the address status.

It should be a part of the remodelling/clean up anyways

well we couldnt cause they said we needed proof wich we didnt get till friday afternoon so technically we had documents of ownership for less than one business day an come monday it was off

Yeah like I said its zero tolerance now with squatters running amock. I know how that was because the local utility played the same games here..

The shutoff is within 24-48 hours of noticing its vacant regardless of what the other dept says but since you now have the proof of ownership you shouldn't have an issue having them restart the account (however long it takes).

You have proof you have proof its just persistence now. Hopefully its the only hitch with the move youll have...

the funny part is i actually know how to turn it all on gas electric water etc i jus dont want to get her in trouble in the past they accidentally shut off our water ina house we were renting an not the neighbors we told them an it took them a wile to acknowledge it i turned it on being they didnt turn it back on for us but the neighbor those sloppy fools

Like with my situation the tabs were there all we could have done is pulled them and power would have been back no sweat. Its just though there would have been 2 cut tabs and definite evidence of tampering. I am not trained to handle 250 volts /50 amp service but the landlord sent an electrician to help out so I wasn't exactly the guy who cut the tabs

Totally up to you though with what you wanna do in this case. Just make sure you cover your rear if you do

If you have all your paperwork in order and paying rent on the property then the landlord is responsible for ensuring that you have all your utillities turned on, snce the landlord had an electrician cut the tabs on the AC meter to provide you power. Its quite likley that the landlord has dealt with the city before on this problem on other properties. If you are without any other utility such as water, go to the landlord and he should be able to motivate the city to restore service.
