Back from ABcon and an to do list let people know
14 years ago
Sooo I got back from the ABcon yesterday... (well "got back" is relative I just commuted in and back Friday and Saturday since I live just 30 minutes away from boston). I have chores and commissions so I didn't go today... plus the schedule isn't really worth it to make a third trip. The real bonus about going in on Sunday's are the dealers have mad discounts to get rid of their merchandise; but seeing as I spent enough the last two days... I'd rather not hahahaha. That's things I got in the dealer's room are thing that go FAST. Shhhhhhhhhuuush it seriously can't be helped at cons. I'm not the type to just blow money but when there is anime, manga, and video games that are hard to find gahhhhh. Then there are just random things and ohhhh the artist alley. I'm not a furry in real life but I do go to anime cons (well one... Boston is every year in the spring).
I went in cosplay my first year but haven't my last two years. I just don't have the time to do the costumes I want because I like the characters that test my sewing and innovation skills. I like making costumes that are fully finished off (I'm an artist... I'm picky about my work lol) and making massive and accurate weapons take time too. Besides I'm on the antisocial side so I spend most of my time darting in and out of workshops and panels (which means my photo collection is on the shy side too). I did get a hug from an awesome looking Renji with his activated Bankai because I asked him if I could take his photo. Usually I just wait until someone asks a person and I sneak in or I just take lots of candid photos... but if I'm impressed I will asked. Because it was Easter weekend, the crowd wasn't as huge as it usually is. It was still BIG but not as massive. Only one of my panels was so packed that we were standing and that was Behind Character Developing.
This year I attended the Figure Drawing workshop (the same one I did lat year... you can never get enough of figure drawing), The Business of Art and Comics (marketing) panel, Old School Panel Inking, The process of making Traditional Japanese and Chinese Instruments, Action Figure Drawing with Dirk Tiede, The Trends behind the Lolita Fashion, Behind Character Developing, How to Make Backgrounds that really create Settings, and the History and Mind of Hayao Miyasaki.
As for schwag... I usually make a mental list before I go... like my first year was a new messenger bag and last year was a hoodie. I always have an item in my head that I NEED to get (it's how I am on a normal basis because I don't actually find shopping overwhelming... I not a person that likes to shop). This was the Chobbits DVD and I always get a funky hat (a hidden nerdy trait of mine... I always get a funky hat). The Chobbit series is actually rather good but it's out of production for the most part so it's hard to find. The dealer room literally only had two copies and this was the first time they had the complete collection. So this was the year of anime (I didn't get manga or games... one I sort of lack the time to really get into reading an entire manga series now and there was a game or two I liked but the Dealer Room is always SOOOO expensive... why pay twice the price I can get it at Game Stop). So I got Chobbits complete series, Gunslinger Girls complete series, and Holic season one. Wow if our anime choices say things about us... those three make me look sad. It says that I'm a highly subservient, loveless (love another but gets nothing in return), and I cook a lot and am overly caring for others rather than myself >.<. Anyways... ummm Dealer room. Well I like figurines and stuffies... but I can never justify them to get them... so I didn't get any. I like the chess sets though. Other than that... I got my yearly hat, 3 cute buttons (1 for $2 or 3 for $5 they all have deals like this), and 4 epically awesome mini prints from the dealer room. Then I got the rest from the Artist Alley. I like the artist alley... when it comes to trinkety items... or art I usually go there. You get everything from prints from artist to etched glass. I got this really neat 3d origami figure of toki doki's cactus girl. I like the artist alley because its more than fan art. As odd as that sounds... I'm one of the rare types that will go to the "original art" before looking at fan art. I get fan art but for me what I buy is all style based. If you wow me talent wise I'll get it no matter if it's original or fan art.
Well that's enough from me.... hehehe.
