Do you need some antivirus advice?

I have an anti-virus software on my pc, but it wont pick up the rootkit or whatever that causes the "search redirect" virus. however, i got the correct program to remove the issue but i cant get the stupid thing to load, it crashes about at about 80%. *sigh* im so tired of messing with the thing.

Check in windows->system32->drivers->etc and make sure that the hosts file is clean. Open it up and it should only have the loopback address and maybe one other. That file can tell your computer to go to a different address than the one you intended.

I did check that, its clean. I searched everywhere, i cant seem to find this thing. :(

Dammit. I'm really bad at providing tech support from a distance. If I was more local I'd take a look at your machine and kick that virus in its ass for ya. Have you tried booting your system into safe mode and see if it acts any differently?

One program I've used to great effect is one called Malwarebytes. If need be you can download the program onto a flash drive and install it onto your notebook from there. Try this in safe mode as some of the nastier viruses will detect AV/antispyware programs and block them from running.

Try installing a new browser, mine did that and I went and installed Google Chrome, no problems yet, if not just right click the link, copy the link, and paste it into the URL bar
