It's a good thing game developers make sure to focus on having strong lengthy singleplayer campaigns as...oh wait :P

There's still a few companies who do, but yes, it's true... Single player campaign lengths are anything but lengthy. :-\

It really ticks me off that there isn't more solid solo games out there. Everything is going the way of multiplayer these days, and I don't ever have anyone to play with.

Some rpgs can be pretty long and a few sandbox games, but fps games have like a four hour campaign.

And some sandbox games are only long because there are lot's of side things you may or may not want to do.

What is a sandbox game? What is the point?

I've never understood the term, or the games that have that classification.

An example I have is Garry's Mod. I have no real use for it, (it came bundled with the HL pack I got) and don't see any real point to it besides the Youtube vids, which I can't even do because it requires more than one person to do the stuff. (again, I tend to be a solo player.)

Another game I hear all about being a "sandbox" is Minecraft. I don't understand why so many people rave about that one. It's just Virtual Legos for people with OCD.

Games like Fallout 3 or GTA San Andreas are sandbox games. It means they are an open world where you can go around and do missions at your leisure while moving about in real time, or just fool around and do random stuff (like in a sandbox).

FF7 would not really be a sandbox game because you go into places/dungeons and level grind and do role-playing-game things like turn-based battles.

I guess that makes sense.
