Take California.
SoCal, it's been fun, but--I hate to say it--it's time to bring things to a close.
You were both very good and amazingly bad for me. The past four years gave me no choice but to grow and grow I did. I could have done without the financial stress, mind you; we don't always get to pick the packaging for our so-called "learning experiences".
This truth I've always known, that SoCal was never going to be home. Some places are an instant fit, others grow on you, but the vast majority won't ever be home, no matter how hard you may try to make yourself stick. I'm built for cold climates. I love the rain. And great big storms, snow, rocky shorelines and quirky places to get a drink, be that coffee, hot chocolate or beer. In other words: the Great Pacific Northwest.
I don't think you suck. I do not hate you, either, though my skin's getting chafed in the way places that aren't home rub you raw, thus the reason I'm heading out now. I want us to part on good terms.
You keep on being yourself. You make a lot of people happy. In July (sorry Mr. Welles!) I will be pulling up the last of my stakes and shooting for a certain spot quite near the Canadian border. Two friends await me there, generous souls willing, for some mad reason, to shelter me while I get my new endeavors going. I hope I'm granted the chance to return the favor, and sooner rather than later.
Peeps of my peeps, Crown Princes and Princesses of SoCal that I have met, let us get together once or thrice before I leave!
Come July: California, adieu!

The heat must have gone to his head.
I can emphasize, cold climates are the best~
Yes, by gum, cold climates are the best. I'm always at my most creative when the weather's inclement.
You are trading in a sizzling brain for a frozen one!
Rainy weather cuts my creativity free. Down here? It's sunny. Relentlessly, endlessly, brutally, Teutonically sunny. I never thought I could find such weather actually oppressive but by God it is. I can't handle any more, I tell you. And snow? Bring it on! Give me rain! Sleet! Hail! I'll take the lot, cook up a big pot of beef stew and spend the day drawing and writing. Woot!
(Where are you in Wa, anyhoo?)
I'm in a little town about 45 minutes SE of Seattle.
Hey, New England is the shiznit, from what I can see.
Though I will have to add a caveat: the firestorms. Those are scary. What a way to get introduced to SoCal. :P
I miss the kind of rainstorms that make you think of building a really big boat and raiding a zoo.
15 days and 13 have rained.
Been a year for awesome storms. Sustained 60-70moph winds, golf ball hail, lightning, tornadoes.
I had ducks swimming in my yard, for real, a few days ago. The water is finally receding.
The grass however is not. -.-
That has me all giddy. :D
Best of luck to you! I hope you like your new portion of the world, and it fits in better with 'ya ;)!
I love B-ham already. The place is so close to gorgeous territory, full of great places to eat and hang out, is dog-friendly, and I'll be next to two very good friends. That's gonna be pretty much perfect. *hugs* Thank you for all the good vibes!
I've only driven through the Ham territory once, and it looked very nice~.
If you're up for a visit or want to come to B-ham, I'd be delighted to meet you and yo' lad. What do you say?
Unfortunately my fella isn't on this coastline, but visits on this coast are always good =).
We should snag a coffee sometime before you head out :D Vantid told me to, haha
Vannie can vouch for me. Mostly harmless, mostly hairy.
Me, I'd love to be in SoCal again, but Seattle was what I could get the boyfriends to compromise on. It's still an order of magnitude more appealing to me than Boston was...
Seattle's not nearly so frenetic or full of action as LA. That's got its positives and negatives. At least it's been a good compromise, I hope!
The first person to nab such a prize gets a great bottle of wine, how's that?
LA is a great place, full of life and vitality, but it does have a mean edge and moves at a crazy pace.
I hope to see you around, man! Drawing with you again would be a blast.
Wouldn't mind talkin' details with you sometime. :)
I would LOVE to travel around Montana...
but really... NH and VT are my true loves.
Good luck!!
(you should totally move here and I can bother you several times a year)
You should move out here. :D
