But seriously, way too much of Gawker's content anymore consists of "[link] Go read this." The article itself does have some pretty good instructions. People need to pick their battles, or they exhaust themselves trying to save every little thing.

I'm a little torn on this subject. I do believe you should live you life as you want to, but some people use that as an excuse to live at the expense of others.
Like a guy who really likes, say, being close to strangers on a bus. He may not care that we think he's creepy, but he's still fucking creepy as hell and invading my personal space and I swear the next time that dude rubs up against me on the bus I'm going to cut his balls off, seriously. Not cool, sweaty bearded man.

But mostly I'm saying this because I have a certain friend who doesn't really know what sort of sexual behaviors are acceptable in a public venue, and their excuse is "well I don't give a fuck, I want to live my life however I feel." Which, like I said, is cool and all but...I really don't want apathetic people humping me in the J.C Penny.

So yeah, don't let arbitrary boundaries influence you. But at the same time have some respect for things like personal space and personal hygiene and shit.

Hence my note up there, that loosening yourself from the grip of feeling compelled to care gives you a firmer grounding for caring more effectively. People who don't have any interest in how others are feeling at all may have a quite different problem.
