So many artists around here bitch and moan about porn this pr0n that in regards to its popularity value and, worse, that porn/smut isn't "true" art or whatever. This opinion I find, of course, rather asinine. BUT I respect an artist's decision not to draw adult themed art for whatever reason. Sometimes they just don't want to draw art like that and it's fine. Others seem to have some sort of vendetta against it and always post some disclaimer about how they don't draw/like porn/adult art or whatever and make sure we know about their distaste for nudity and sexual situations. It just...kinda grates on my nerves after a while, ya know? I mean, they say it's not art or whatever the fuck they wanna but...honestly porn gives me trouble to draw. I personally find the shit to be kind of hard to draw whether it's classy/erotic/smutty or not. Work goes into all of this stuff so I don't think it's fair to downplay anything just because you're jealous or feel under-appreciated. I mean, shit, sometimes I wonder how many artists drop by my page because they saw someone fave some of my non-adult work or remember be from somewhere else and drop in only to see a few of my more recent adult pics and go the other way or think differently of me or somethin' like that. Everyone gets horny and looks at smut now and then. Don't try to lie to me and say you don't because I won't believe it for a second. Sometimes I'm in the mood to draw somethin' like that whether it's for/of my boyfriend and me or not.

I draw it sometimes and that's because I feel like it. I couldn't give a damn about popularity and I'll tell you what...I was plenty popular/well-known on DA and any other sites I used as well as here early on when I didn't draw it at all so I really don't find the porn = popularity a valid point to hate it. Sure, drawin' sexually themed pictures leads to more people findin' your work on this site but that's because sex sells and everyone knows it. What was that sayin'..If ya can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch? Basically, you need to bust your ass and work at your art to be good and get noticed. You don't -have- to draw porn to be noticed. There are plenty of artists, even on this site, that are well known and don't have a speck of pornography in their gallery. You don't even have to do a bunch of fanart either. All you have to do is establish and distinguish yourself.

That being said, I do enjoy when I watch someone who previously chose not to draw it decide to draw somethin' along those lines here and there because they want to. No longer governed by the thoughts of those who really don't matter. Like breakin' outta their shell or somethin' ya know? It seems like some artists are afraid to go there because they think they'll be lumped in and accused of pandering or somethin' stupid like that. And they're probably right. That's one of the things that's fucked up about art communities. They are leavin' less and less room to be an artist and express yourself. I would also think the point of these sites is to find other individuals who can appreciate what you do and offer helpful and constructive opinions/criticisms on it. Granted, some sites have rules against certain things and others do not...yet the members of those communities are content to bash and ostracize those who are well within the rules of the site and are only posting what they enjoy very much the same as everyone else.

Anyway, I'll hop off of my soap box here. What do you think?

Oh, but of course. There's a double-standard to all of this, really. On one hand people are exercising their right and on the other the ones who express their opinion, wanted or not, on it are doing the same. It's just that with that amendment you have to factor in common courtesy as well as know when you should just click the little X at the top of your tab or browser window and move on to the next thing. Sometimes certain things aren't meant for certain eyes therefore the expression of certain opinions is neither needed nor wanted. It's basically knowing when to keep quiet and mind your own business and when you need to be vocal.

I don't have any qualms with pornography, and I think pornography has a lot of possibilities when combined with artistic creativity and imagination.

However, I can see why artists get frustrated with porn, especially on this site. For one thing, the site is saturated with bad porn. Just... bad art in general actually. Sure that's subjective, but it's annoying to see an abhorrent lack of creativity, especially with something as dynamic as pornography.

That and the silly fetishes that more or less defy anatomy and artistic standard. It's hard for an artist to take themselves and other artists seriously when they post on a site associated with anal-vore and... well god knows what else. It's hard knowing nobody in the real world that isn't a furry will see your art and not think of all the bad horrid things that are seemingly just fine and acceptable here on FA. The association created by all the negatives in porn just down-right sucks, especially with the porn on here that's either bad or deplorable (or both).

I won't judge an artist that draws porn (that'd be hypocritical for one thing), and I think pornography in art can be pretty nice and tasteful. But the typical overdone stuff mixed with the bad and the nightmare-inducing makes for a sour taste in the mouth.

Yes, this is all very true and I can understand that. It can be a bother when someone else who isn't a furry assumes the worst. This site does have...a lot of weird, weird fetishes that's for sure and most of them I don't understand how someone can be into them. But there are weird fetishes with all porn, really, and some of it has become rather commonplace at this point. This makes it no less weird. But honestly, sometimes that is somethin' that can be helped...ya know, the whole bad art thing. That's why we have other creative types to help the ones who are struggling along however they can. Provided the criticism is constructive and the artist can take criticism and suggestions and grow with them...we can have a better community as a whole. Kind of a give and take thing here, I think.

That, of course, doesn't really apply to the weird shit 'round here. That ventures into the realms of generalizations and brand new stereotypes that should be avoided and that's another discussion entirely. I mean...how long did it take people who drew anime-styled art to cope with people thinkin' they were into tentacle and demon rape hentai stuff back when that was first croppin' up?

As far as I know they still deal with that kinda stuff, though the focus of "weird art that's gross" seems to have shifted to furry lately. That and the associated drama and what-not.

One thing that bothers me with porn, is that I get tons of comments and faves and watches whenever I draw something kinky. But when I upload a personal piece of art, something that's not necessarily pornographic (or at the least, not as perverted), something I've put a lot of time and effort into, I don't get much appreciation at all. People say furry isn't all about the porn, but it's hard not to get that idea when your non-porn art that you work just as hard on is more or less ignored. :c

Hahahaha oh no, that's the truth. It's not about the porn, sure, but that's depending on who you ask. If you want to get watches and comments easily and quickly porn is the way to go. Sex sells and folks wanna bust a nut or whatever. And DA has pretty much died as far as I can tell unless you're a specific type of artist on there, too,so it's a lot harder to get the recognition and satisfaction you want on here with art that isn't pornographic. I just, personally, get tired of all the whining and even personal attacks about it because an artist chooses to draw such a thing. Don't get me wrong: that fact bothers me a bit, too. The truth is, a lot of people come here to look for porn and other people to talk about porn because this site allows it. I didn't see this on DA back in it's heyday because it didn't allow stuff like that so people pretty much had to check out other stuff. Granted, over there there was the whole fanart popularity fiasco but, again, that's a discussion for another time.

I'd have to say I agree with you: It's ridiculous that some people make such a big deal out of it. If they don't like it then why look at it in the first place?

Popularity is overrated and I think it's sad if it's all you are looking for when all it is really is the attention on thousands of people you don't know. I rather be unknown and have the people around me good friends that I DO know.
I don't draw it myself (cuz I sure as hell don't know how and it'd be more romantic than pr0n-like 8D) but I'm not going to deny that I do enjoy it from time to time (though it sure doesn't mean I'm going to go off on people who like it more). And if there's something I don't like then I stay away (in some cases FAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR away cuz they're some seriously scary stuff out there ._.)

Haha and if I see someone I know who chooses to do porn then I'm mostly like Oh...they do that? Cool
