I despise Halloween. Commercial and cheesy.
In the slavic countries, 1st November is a very different holiday. It's an important one, and entirely different than all the others. Do you, Americans, have one special day of the year that is meant to be -sad-?
'All saints' is the day of memory of those who passed away. We visit their graves, we light candles for them. We recall them, we recall all the good moments we had together, that will never be again. This is a day of the ghosts, but not of cheesy spooks and fake costumes, but of spirits of those who were most precious to us. They are with us that day again.

Light a candle for everyone you held dear, who is gone.
