Drum Major Auditions

Went so amazingly awesome well! Not nearly as nerve-wracking has I feared it would be, so that was good. 8 people auditioned, 6 rising Seniors, myself included, and 2 rising Juniors. All we had to do was conduct through a Marching Band movement entitled "Reflections of Sound", a somewhat slow piece in 5/4 and 4/4 with a ridiculously broad dynamic range... Ranging from pianissimo to quadruple-Forte. Everyone was supportive of everyone else (except one guy who is kind of a douche anyways, went first and then left because he "had stuff to do), and only one person had a problem with letting everyone else watch them conduct, albeit from the back of the room.
I went second and the first response I got was from one of the soon-to-be-juniors "DUDE! That was AWESOME!". While a good chunk of the hopefuls practiced together, I was one of the guys who went off and learned it by myself and such, and that may have helped a lot. Feed back included: Great intensity, yet a good understanding of the sensitive parts of the score. I guess if I had to sum up my conducting style in 3 words: "Intense, yet Sensitive." Also, I was told that my actual technique is pretty solid. This is awesome because I'm pretty much completely self-taught.
So, I think that if he decides to have just one Drum Major next year, I have a ridiculously awesome shot of getting the position. If he decides to go with two, he might choose a pair from the people who practiced together just because their styles are so similar.
No matter what happens, this was awesome to go through. Let's hope I get the spot! We'll find out tomorrow after school. So, if I get it, it makes this weekend just that much more amazing.
If I don't, I can drown my disappoint in a fun evening at a fun park with
wolfeh and
creulevulpes and various friends.
Here's to hoping!
